This whole thing is a set up and fake news. It is all staged and the story makes a lot more sense when viewed this way: her putting the purse on the floor, the amount of cash, the choice of restaurant on Easter. It’s all staged. The story was fishy from the start

Mario Bustamante-Leiva, 49, of Santiago, was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly made off with the luxury shoulder bag while Noem, 53, was at an Easter outing with her family at The Capital Burger in Washington, DC, sources told The Post.
Bustamante-Leiva, who is in the US illegally, is believed to be part of a large East Coast robbery organization.
“The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the Capital Burger restaurant and saw an unknown White male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.”

Maybe Noem and SS made up the crap about it being a white guy. Or maybe now they are making up the crap about it being a Chilean. And I bet the $3000 in cash was a lie, too. Who knows, this administration lies so much it's not even worth bothering to keep up with versions. It's so bad anymore I just automatically don't lend any credibility to anything coming out of their mouths.

Here's how it was stolen. They have it on surveillance video.
The man who allegedly stole a Gucci bag loaded with cash from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was sitting at the table next to hers, according to video of Sunday’s incident reviewed by Secret Service investigators. The surveillance footage of the incident at The Capital Burger restaurant in Washington, DC, showed the suspect purposefully moving close to Noem as he zeroed in on her Gucci bag near her feet, a law enforcement source said. The thief, dressed in dark clothing, sat down at an empty table next to Noem with his back facing her and used his left foot to slide the bag away, the source said. He surveyed the restaurant before eventually picking up the bag, covering it with his jacket and leaving. Only when Noem got up from the table did she realize her bag was missing, the source said.

Apparently the Secret Service agents were seated at the bar, between Noem's table and the front door. I'm not sure what they can do from that distance...other than racially profile patrons who head towards the back of the restaurant.
Anyone besides me notice the head of DHS, which heads Secret Service, is never questioned about why her Secret Service detail missed a guy coming up and taken her purse full of cash and her passport?
Do we just not care that Secret Service let that happen?

My DH (who BTW grew up in an incredibly backward, rural Southern Area) calls her “Country Comes to Town”. And you sorta hoed that was an act for MAGA, because head of DHS is kinda important. But nope, we really have someone defending our homeland who can’t defend their purse in a Dc fast casual restaurant.
Also, who takes their family to Capital Burger for Easter dinner (especially if they are large cross, praise Jesus Christians and doing the Easter dress, Church, nice dinner thing is important? I don’t expect to see her at upscale Indian, but was genuinely surprised Easter dinner wasn’t at a steakhouse. Especially for someone openly flashing cash and Gucci bags.
Also, a little surprised she didn’t list a gun as one of the things in her purse.
