The work addict father who neglects his wife and kids to do his personal hobbies and work 24/7 and has no relationship or connection with them. Believes being an egotistical Paycheck Provider is the end of be all of his life’s demands.
She, also working but solely raising the children and maintain the home/staff, divorces him once they kids are older and independent. She may still be in love with how he was before these adult responsibilities, the ones he cannot and will not handle.
Once the kids are launched, by other adults, he reverts back to bachelors days. Or worse.
DP. Another woman here. Can't stand Amanda Peete's character either. She's just not sympathetic no matter how you paint it above.
I can't stand how her character represents women in their late 40s. She's completely controlled by her hormones, beefing with the neighbor about dog poo, overly-controlling her daughter, and drinking too much. How about, I dunno, she enters this new stage of life by finding a fulfilling job, hobby, or volunteer work?

I actually liked Sam, so was kind of bummed how she turned out. I can’t stand Mel, I hope her and Coop don’t get back together in the next season. Barney and his family were the most interesting and likable IMO. I hope they get more of a storyline in the next Season.
Ugh, I found Barney’s wife to be seriously selfish and overly materialistic. I liked Mel but was so tired of Nick - glad they broke up.
One thing I like about Jon Hamm is the way he plays a father - without having any kids of his own. He’s very believable in that role.
Given his inner monologue in show and how meaningfully he talks with his ex wife, father, and kids, he seems emotionally mature and decent communication.
This of course is at odds with a work addict father who pushed his wife and kids away for years of focusing only on work. He would have been more self aware of the damage he was causing, as he is now.

I think they could add an interesting element to the show if we got more of this family.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:It was an easy watch. Something about it bugs me. What is it? The song? It’s lame.

Also, the fat Nordic art dealer. I guess we haven’t seen the last of him. I found it strange that he was out to get Coop, considering he got to keep the original painting without paying Coop a dime.
