What are you using to draw comparison to today's player pool to say now is weaker?
(Just asking because so many kids from the DMV are leaving for Europe and also getting picked up by MLS club academies or going to D1 schools today)
I've only heard of a few local kids going to Europe (Yow, who is not really a kid any longer though). This makes it sound like there are dozens. Who are all these DMV kids?
google is your friend
DCUA has produced only two kids that were on an actual youth national team (ie where they earned a cap) in the last 5 years. No local DMV club has put any player on any youth national team at any age on the boys side in the last five years and after the DA was dissolved. Google that...
They said kids from the DMV have gone to clubs in Europe, gone to MLS Academies and to D1 colleges
Why are you responding about DCUA and National Teams?
Someone asked how the talent pool has weakened recently compared to other years.
No youth national team players from local clubs and only two from the MLS academy in our area in the last 5 years is pretty strong evidence of a weaker player pool. In years past, the DMV was putting players on the youth national teams pretty consistently.
Put up the chart year by year before 5 years ago that shows all the youth players from the DMV going to USYNTs, D1 colleges and joining European clubs
Then a chart of past 5 years.
If you can't do that, you're just talking out the side of your neck.
Prove that any of the points that have been made are wrong...You can't.

There are more players from that region in other age groups ..which is why the PPs post about chances of making the actual national team from our area from a local non MLS club are almost zero and even from DCU very slim with the current talent pool. US Soccer is saying the pool is stronger elsewhere. Not some disgruntled parent

I guess national youth and senior teams selections is heavy politics in every other country but ours
Does all MLS Clubs and Academies have equal representation in USYNT and USMNT?

These local and regional ynt camps are largely handouts by US Soccer to local clubs that they have connections with to keep the peace between them, the MLS (who now runs the player pool) and the clubs money making potential on the boys side. They throw a few bones to the Bethesdas and Arlingtons of the world just so they can continue to market that they have players in the ynt pool (which would be accurate). That in turn translates to money on the recruitment side for these clubs. And the clubs can't cry about only MLS academy players getting opportunities in the system (which they still do). That's all it is.
Within the clubs, of course it is hyper political who gets nominated and that is a big problem because it usually also boils down to money and connections, not pure talent. Of course there are talented kids that are chosen just because they are talented. That's the way it should be. But a lot of kids on the lists are political picks and that is just the way it is. At this age the process is super political.because the reality is that US Soccer is not that involved in the pool. They don't have the resources to be heavily involved in these younger ages where the kids have barely hit puberty. So they rely a lot on word of mouth and connections to the players. In that environment politics plays a massive role and of course savvy parents in the DMV with money know this and manipulate the system as they do with just about everything else.
But, the fact of the matter is this...None and I mean NONE of the kids on these lists on the boys side who are not in a MLS academy have any chance of actually making the national team. Literally zero chance. Look at any actual ynt roster at any age (on the boys side) and you will see this pretty clearly. MLS has taken over the player pool as previously stated and US soccer funnels the talent through them. And even the players who are at MLS academies might get left off a ynt roster for players in Europe with ynt eligibility.
So if you're scratching your head at these lists and wondering why lower caliber players are on them, now you have a better sense. And now you also know that this list is probably as far as those players will go in the national team pool. Even if a player is at a MLS academy, chances are still slim they are making the actual national team from our area. Maybe a regional camp or two. But the reality is that our player pool in the DMV isn't what it used to be (at least on the boys side) and our area clubs and their focus on winning first has a lot to do with that, DCU included.
This is a lot of words to try to minimize the accomplishments of five or six thirteen year olds. And I don't believe a conspiracy theory that the invites are part of a scheme to bring money into specific clubs. please. I do believe, knowing a fair number of these players , that there are multiple kids at clubs outside of DC United that are as good or better players than the lower half of DCs roster in any age group. And it's a big deal being one of the 25-30 best players in your region even if not one of the top 40 players in the entire country.
