Yes read earlier in this thread…..rich ppl hang out with each other. It’s easier that way.

——

Your first tier is top boarding schools.
Tier down is certain other private/prep schools (along with the kids of CEO /hedge fund/PE/banker parents bc kids want jobs)
Further down is public high school but full pay
Below that is financial aid kids of any amount.
Bottom is FGLI/questbridge etc.

Read about real experiences on Reddit if you doubt it.

One of the most popular icebreakers for new student orientation/dorms is “where do you summer” or where did you vacation post-graduation. Followed by country club geography.

Neither of my different-ivy kids were asked “where do you summer”. And they are full pay white kids. No one asks things like this unless you have zero self-awareness and reflection skills. They are not athletes and their conversations revolve around what courses are you taking and who do you read in your free time(authors, newspapers etc), what level of math did you complete in high school and what professors do you have for fall

+1 everyone is very 'normal'. I think the Ivies don't attract the really 'flashy' wealth anyways. The kids very much downplay it if they have it and you wouldn't know by how 'normal' they act and appear. Maybe it's an 'old $' thing.

JFK Jr really sought the kid that did not come from wealth. He loved hanging out with him. He didn't like the hangers-ons. He wanted authenticity. The kid had capital because he could surf really well (on a school trip to the RI beaches) and was a bit of a daredevil. JFK Jr wanted to be cool like him. IT was a really interesting read from the kid's point of view. He also talks about going back for Xmas to Jackie O''s NYC apartment with John. Nothing fazed John and didn't care about the wealth thing---more 'the people'.

Yup, those Kennedys were just plain folks. That’s why John Jr. went to Brown & died flying his own plane to Martha’s Vineyard, just like an ordinary average middle class kid. (barf)

Nobody said they were, dope. They said he sought out the ordinary (non-wealth crowd) while there. One of his good friends came from nothing—met him at a sponsored trip to the beach - California kid who could surf .

Uh, “didn’t care about the wealth thing”? You can’t read. Moron.

TRUTH. "Typical" full pay kids at ivies, which is only 45% of ivy kids, are the 300-600k HHI kids, so top 5% to borderline 1% but not the 10-100million kids. They are rare even at ivies. We have children and nephews at multiple ivies, and come from "regular" lawyer/doctor top 2-5% wealth.
The five uber wealthy families--mega donors at all the fancy balls and popular nonprofits, CEOs and PE folks--at our private sent kids to SMU, William and Mary, Wake, TCU, UVA, another Wake, and a Baylor. Only half of them were ivy contenders, and none got in because they were not in the true top of the class/top stats.
DC's bestie at her T10 is from an even more elite prep school (in MA) than our DMV one: the smartest kids and fac brats went to ivies/T10s and some of them are also private equity million dollar kids but the uber wealthy families were more commonly a few notches below the smartest kids, but the difference is they did niche sports but were not top smarts, but could nab a recruit spot at Amherst, Brown, other ivies, but otherwise if non recruits the rich went to WashU, Vanderbilt, UChicago in ED, because they were not in the group to be competitive for ivies, even at a school that sends 20% to ivies

We are one of these families.
Agree.
On the schools from our private HS as well.
Definitely not T10 level, but private T25 (ED) or USC/Michigan/Wisconsin/Wake/BC/SMU/TCU/Boulder is the play, depending on where you are in the class.

I don’t know. I’d do him.

His wife did not come from wealth. She couldn’t afford her apartment in NYC until she got her Calvin Klein job. Her and Carole bonded because of their thrift shopping and frugalness growing up- waitressing jobs, etc

tell me you did not have an elite education without telling me...
