Title IX is in full force -- that is a law and can't be changed except by Congress and the President -- this is s settlement between private parties. Same with antitrust rules--- nothing to find out that is the fact.

I'm a D1 women's coach and unfortunately all this is true, and happening for 2025....we were recently told (mid major) that we have to get our roster to 28. Alot of the P4s jumped the gun b/c they knew it was coming. It was more blurry at our level, but lots of 25s and current players will be getting unfortunate news after the season ends. No one hates it more than we do.

Why wait then? If it needs to be done, delaying the inevitable only hurts the 2025 kids involved. Existing players can at least enter the portal and see if there's interest elsewhere. The 2025s will be screwed.

Yeah -- I have a feeling that D1 Women's College coach is either not that or she is just wrong. It is pretty clear that the earliest this is going into effect is 2026. The settlement is still not approved by the judge and may never be.

I am a coach and I'm not wrong. The settlement was approved on Oct 7. The vast number of P4's have already been releasing 2025 commits since beginning of Fall. There will likely be currently rostered players released as well but many will wait until season over so as to not cause disruption, and also the portal doesn't even open for WSO until Nov 18. The issue is still very confusing to everyone as I alluded to (initially the way the ruling read, everyone thought it would just apply to P4s who were 'opting into revenue sharing model' but now we are being told it will apply to all. All I can say is we were just told by our Administration to prepare for a 28 roster by end of spring....I've heard from other colleagues they have been told effective by Fall 2025 (which is basically the same thing). This will affect much more than 25s..... and 26s as well, because there will be FAR fewer roster spots available for 26s and many schools have already locked up as many as they can take. A 28 roster means average of 7 per class, and it's not unusual for programs to have 9 or 10 in a freshman or sophomore class....so in that case to stay under 28, it may mean taking less than 7 in next 2 classes for many schools.

My son’s team only has 2 24s, but 11 5th years and Seniors. The boys’ side is already heavily using the transfer portal and likes the older, experienced players vs the 18-year old Freshmen.

Preliminary approval was granted, but it's not finalized by any means. Lots can happen between now and April which can derail this agreement.

Asking D1 coach that posted...will the transfer portal be larger or smaller this November with this change?

It's hard to say but I'm thinking it will likely be somewhat smaller since the class of 2024 was the last class eligible for the 'extra' covid year.....that has played a large part in the huge portal the past 4 years because basically every year, 25% of the players were able to take an extra year, and many entered the portal as a result. None of us had any roster limits, and rosters have inched up over the last 4 years since there were so many legitimately talented and proven college players who flooded the portal, and lots of schools were willing to add to rosters in those circumstances. I would think that the "appeal" of the portal won't be near as high now, and combined with the fact that none of us will have any room to take any of these players even if we wanted to, since we'll all be hard pressed to get to 28 in the first place. So, I think alot more players will be dying in the portal.

Should be concerned when college football and basketball becomes the minor league feeder system and pulls away from NCAA and no longer funds other sports. That’s where all of this is going.

This November the transfer portal will be loaded with players that will be dropped along with all of the unhappy players looking for new schools. Not to mention all the players that will leave schools because their coach gets fired.
