Goalkeeper-specific TRYOUTS
Date: Wednesday, April 30
Location: Bready Park
Times:
2013 - 2011 Boys & Girls (Rising U13 to U15) 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm at Bready Park
2010 - 2007 Boys & Girls (Rising U16 to U19) 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm at Bready Park

So how will this work with it being so late after tryouts? Are they going to wait to give offers to GK until after this happens?

Regarding tryouts. HYS had asked the players to wear black. The usual practice shirts are red. Players were given numbers to wear.

My daughter has played for Coach Abdi for several years. I've seen her grow in both skill and confidence during that time. He gets along very well with the players.

16:47 - I am not a 2011 parent. I have older boys who have played for GT and MS for several years.

Both posts can be true at the same time.

Two families on the same team can have very different experiences and opinions of the coaching.

Is anyone familiar with the 2011 boys age group? At the second tryout yesterday based on all the Herndon practice jerseys it looked like there would be few if any open spots for new players on either of the teams. Will they move current players up or down or cut kids who have played on the red team for new players? Have they sent out any offers yet?

His current team is toxic and ds needs a fresh start so just trying to gage the chances. The field he was on last night was almost all not wearing Herndon shirts which seemed like a bad indicator to me.

If you're looking to get away from a toxic environment, you won't find it with the HYS 2011 coaches. GT plays to favorites and MS is a screamer who will berate your child for funsies.

Also, if you're kid is on the field with all of the non-Herndon jerseys, he is not being seriously considered. This is how all of the HYS tryouts go.

Wow. Herndon Boys 2011 parents seem to have pretty divergent opinions. This was almost simultaneously posted on the "Possession" thread:

Using the "direct" style of play, it may be useful at a younger age and may work but as the children age it will become very hard because they have not developed the skill of controlling and possession. For example, my son has been playing with Herndon 2011 for about 4 years. When his team first started playing travel, it was hard, and they lost many games because their coach encouraged them to play with possession. Although at first, they lost many games, this has developed them into one of the best teams in the area and created a great possession team that dominates most teams they play. Through the many years, I have witnessed many teams who used to dominate them in the early years, now become the teams that are being dominated. I just wanted to share that because that has been our experience with the possession game vs the direct game.

Thanks. So your 2011 boy is leaving?
Maybe we will try Burke or VSA.

Pretty sure there are spots in the 2014 boys group. They have started giving offers.

This was the last night of tryouts though.

There are always tryout opportunities later in the spring and summer

Its generally not a good sign if your kid is on a tryout field without any current players but I am not familiar with the coaches in that age group so they might have a different approach. Good luck to your son.
