There is a reason incoming rec players moving into travel don't all start on the bottom teams.
Most rec coaches are just glorified babysitters that are trying to make sure his DC has friends to play with. There are some decent rec players but they can’t hold a candle to any mid level travel player. And I guarantee any rec player whose dad is coaching is not even average.

The election was stolen.
If I repeat, it will be true.

Terrible coach and strange human. Decently talented group of girls.

Paul Ellis does not care about anything but money coming into his club. I know for a fact parents has voiced many concerns and nothing ever changes. He doesn't care about parents or players. He is willing to lose the parents and players that have a heart for the game and know what this club is doing isn't anything to get their kid to play their best.
He doesn't care about you and other parents because you are probably annoying and an idiot. He does care about the player and the game. Do you even know the talent he's seen? Your child probably couldn't even hold a water bottle in comparison to the talent he's had in the past. That's probably why you're on here complaining. Shut up. https://www.vadcsoccerhof.org/hall-of-fame-inductees/hall-of-fame-bios/paul-ellis#:~:text=Paul%20Ellis%20is%20currently%20the,levels%20of%20the%20youth%20game.
Nonsense. He came up with a whole plan to create a separate organization to keep travel profits separate from the original rec leagues they were associated with, designated himself in charge, and pays himself a large salary. (They don't even get their own permits, they use CYA fields which means fewer fields for the CYA rec teams.) He cares about cash money ducats and nothing else. If he truly cared about the game and the player, he would let exceptional poor kids play for free (Valor has very stingy financial aid). They would send weak players back to the rec leagues instead of taking their money and be honest with parents.
THIS. U9 boys team has a gold, white, black, silver and blue. We have watched some of these games in passing and they are painful. And it isnt the kids fault. these are rec league players paying travel dues just because. If he was in it for the players these teams wouldnt exist.
So I have a question about this. Do other large clubs like Arlington, Loudoun Alexandria that have this many teams per age group take everyone or do they turn some kids away at tryouts? My sense is that the little kid teams at those clubs are stronger than those at Valor. Do those other clubs have a better talent pool? Or a stronger pre travel program? It seems even at U9 there is a difference.
Yes they do. US soccer is pay to play. If they can find a coach and field enough players. However, You do see development across several teams in an age group at other clubs. Most valor gold teams wouldn't make 2nd or 3rd team at other clubs. There just isn't any development. Only 2 coaches are exceptional there.
Who are the exceptional 2?
Coach Ben and Coach Dover

Arlington absolutely turns kids away at tryouts, my kid made it on to the lowest arlington travel by the skin of their teeth —got rejected at first and then a spot opened up, maybe a week later.
In our experience, yes there is definitely a difference. Lots of comments here about how travel below the first two teams is just a money grab. It’s all a money grab to some degree for other reasons, but I have to vehemently disagree. You can see the difference between not only the different travel teams, but the lowest travel teams v ADP v rec.
There is no difference between the lowest travel teams and a rec team.
FALSE. The travel team has more expensive uniforms.
