And now I hear rumors that GFR is going to leave NVA after this season and form some kind of "partnership" with McLean in the wake of SYC leaving VA Union. And that would seem to make sense as Nadir Moumem was hired as the new GFR TD. But again, what benefit would GFR get from that?
A better partnership than the one with NVA maybe, a relationship between the clubs that works both ways?

There is no poaching
It is very rare for any athlete in any sport to stay with one program throughout their development, NOR is it recommended!

Arlington doesn’t develop. I would never trust my dd there at u9-u12 age groups.
Older teams play kickball too.
I think they try to develop who they have but they naturally take the biggest and fastest at the youngest ages. Hard for the smaller or later developing players to find success when being coached on the 3rd-6th teams.
And it seems more teams play kickball than don’t, all in the pursuit of wins. When those wins start to pile up, talented and hard working kids (parents) will gravitate to those teams allowing coaches to play a different style.
Players develop themselves until the older ages. Find a team that allows for the most opportunities for your kid while also providing sufficient challenges to grow. Every player has their own individual path and there is no one right way.

I believe this is why anonymous boards are no Bueno........Rado 100% was the lead coach on the girls side for the older girls...I don't know of any substantial complaints against Rado. To my knowledge the teams were very successful for an ECNL-R team with several D1 and D3 commits from a small club for 2005, 2006, 2007 still in recruiting.
William &Mary, (2) Radford, GWU, Rhode Island, VMI, Maryland, Bridgewater, Mcdaniel and still many 07's in the process and a few 06's still looking for homes.........

You miss the point. A father who coaches D1 soccer and coached his daughter thru u15, had the opportunity to pick any coach/club in the DMV and picked NM/McLean. Not sure how much of an endorsement you need. Also, I have watched plenty of committed players who developed elsewhere who left elite clubs to join NM/McLean their final year because the environment and training is superior to other places.
From my experience, NM is great at offering opportunities to play at various levels. If your kid is driven and will work on personal development (first touch, striking, etc.) they will have plenty of opportunities to play at a high level.
Unfortunately you need to take private training with NM on the side to get the preferential treatment as discussed above. NOBODY wants to play for NM in the area because this VERY well known. It’s why players left the 09 team. That team has more politics than any in the area, ECNL, GA, or EDP. NM only wants your money, but hey, you at least get something in return…
Comments like this are why you should never trust anything on this site. I was one of the many parents that followed him from MD. Me and other parents have asked to pay for private training with him for the last 10 years and he has refused to ever take a penny.
While that is a huge lie, I doubt anyone really believed it anyway cause they also said nobody wants to play for NM. Now that is just funny.
I heard there is some sort of private training going on but maybe you are right.
Please don’t act like NM is against taking money though. In the next couple of months, GFR parents will open their emails up to see an invitation to TF summer overnight camps. Most of them haven’t seen this before so their excitement will be understandable.
They will be requesting an offensive amount of money for a two day camp.
The overnight practice? This is a joke of a camp, come practice with the same coaches you’ll be working with during the season and pay $700-$800 for the “opportunity” and don’t forget D1 and NWSL players have participated in this camp and is a big reason why they’re where they are.
Or you could pay $400 and go to UVA, UNC, MD, etc.
And if you don’t go to the camp, they have a nice spot down at the end of the bench regardless of skill…
That is not true at all. My daughter played for DMV and Herndon before that, couldn't make the camp and it never changed her playing time. I never felt pressure to do the camp, which is as much a bonding activity/fun event, as it is soccer training. Give it a rest with the NM bashing.
But they promote it as a soccer camp.
Do you think parents are so incompetent that they need NM to choose ‘fun activities’ for their children? Is he now an event planner? My son is getting married….
You lack the perspective because your daughter played for Herndon and DMV. Nothing wrong with playing for those clubs but your furthest away trip was down the street to play the Reston Warriors. Other ECNL families travel to South Carolina to play a single game vs CESA before traveling back home.
After doing that for 8 months who wants to get hit over the head for another thousand bucks?
Not sure why you implied local travel. My kid played for NM in MD before the team moved to McLean. Locally we went as far as Amish Country, PA and Morgantown, WV, for league games and played in tournaments in NC and FL. Granted, the travel is not the same as ECNL but the team traveled. As a father of a kid who played at three local ECNL clubs, I can confirm that NM is not the only coach who operates an overnight camp. Bethesda used to have an overnight camp and my kid attended. From what I saw, NM's camp was more team-focused in that the team would build camaraderie.
Looking back at my kid's time with NM, he offered a year-around training program and he offered plenty of opportunities to play. Outside of FCV, I am just not aware of another program have such a program. The camps, the training and extensive opportunities to play provide a great environment for my kid.

I believe this is why anonymous boards are no Bueno........Rado 100% was the lead coach on the girls side for the older girls...I don't know of any substantial complaints against Rado. Absolutely some incompetence but I think the incompetence was paying those two directors $300,000 a year. Rado has been trying to find another club for years but no takers.
