Since there are very few school meetings actually scheduled is it fair to assume this boundary study is only impacting these few Elementary Schools?

I thought there were significant issues w/overcrowding at Deal and Ross. Why aren't any of the schools in NW on this list?

I'm a Bancroft parent and I have been working on this boundary issue for a few months now.

Bancroft is overcrowded so they are dealing with trying to get the numbers down.

-Get rid of PreK3
-Cut off the boundary at Kenyon or Irving(depending on who you talk to) and send those kids to HD Cooke.
-Finding an annex building for the PreK 3 & 4 classes.
(The majority of parents support this proposal and are actively looking for prospective sites)

The second issue is the feeder pattern. Right now Bancroft has a geographic feeder Deal/JR and two programmatic feeders CHEC and McFarland.

The powers that be want to only have two feeders one geographic and one programmatic. The big fight is keeping Deal/JR. There are all kinds of scenarios and lobbying going on. There are all sorts of politics at play. The parents have organized(and are making lots of noise) and are trying to come up with the best solutions.

I hope this answers your question about why Bancroft had specific meetings last week on the boundary issues.

There is also a third round of citywide townhalls the third week of December. (There have been two other citywide townhalls, if you look on DME website you can find recording and materials).
These school specific meetings are open to everybody, but will have a more specific focus depending on the school/meeting.

Oh I see. Thanks for the info! Don’t really need to know the Bancroft deets, I just misunderstood and thought they had presented broader scenarios to Bancroft only.

I've seen changes proposed to the Brent/Watkins/Payne boundaries, so not surprised to see meetings at the former two schools; seems like they should have one at the latter as well. (They want to move the bit just south of the Western end of the current Watkins zone from Brent to Watkins, which would have the effect of making the zone look slightly less gerrymandered; on the flip side, they plan to move a few blocks of the Watkins zone near Payne into the Brent zone, which also makes sense as directly across the street from the Payne playground is currently IB for Watkins & some of those families actually lottery for Payne now.)

I haven't heard any proposed changes to Maury's boundary, but I assume there must be something given the meeting. Will be interested to hear.

FYI- Latin person here. Mayor doesn’t even pretend to listen to Latinos. Same goes for my ward rep. I’m in ward 6 where there are few of us, but we are totally ignored. When I other parts of the city, sometimes they would pretend, but really we are invisible.
