They married in 2002 when they were late 30s so they were only married a dozen years before she was diagnosed. I'd been picturing them getting married in their early 20s and having been married for decades. Either way, it's sad all around. Horribly sad to be diagnosed so young and have no recognition of your children. No judgment here on how the husband is handling it.
DP. I don’t judge him for having an affair. I judge him for bringing the AP to dinner with his kids before wife #1 is under ground.
Huh. You are very rigid.
My husband has my blessing one hundred times over to move in a girlfriend in the event that I become intellectually incapacitated.
I wouldn’t want my husband to write a column about it, especially before I died. The indignity of Alzheimer’s is bad enough. Maybe that’s what is making me feel less than sympathetic.

He didn’t abandon the kids. Where are you getting that? One child is in college. Maybe the mom wanted full custody.
From the New York Times article this thread is about. Did you read it? Perhaps you should if you two are friends. His behavior and abandonment of his children is shameful and appalling. No future colleague of his will ever be in the dark about it either. Cold.

So, one brother had an affair and left his wife during COVID and the other brother has his his AP around his wife and kids. (I'm a little more open to the second scenario because of his wife's early Alzheimer's but I'm not sure I could do that. You never know, I suppose.)
Look, as sad as it is, there is no more wife - there is an empty shell of a person. In old times she would be gone years ago, it’s a miracle of modern advances that we keep those shells breathing and eating and doing things that come after eating.
