I need a supportive footbed and I really like Taos when I need something a little more stylish than my usual Birks or Tevas.
Are you 80?
Seriously. On what planet are these stylist for anyone other than a 70-80 year old grandmother from Palm Beach.
Why is it an insult to suggest that someone is 80? My mom is close to 80, and while she is not a maven of style, she would not wear these sandals. She has sandals similar to (but not exactly the same as) the fit flops that an earlier person posted, which are reasonable, normal sandals. Being an older person does not mean that you are compelled to pick unattractive styles. People can dress nicely for the age that they are.
DP. Oh come on! I'm 40 -- I don't want people to think I look 80, and I also don't want people to think I look 20. Not hard to understand.
There have been several links posted lately that look comfortable but not orthopedic. (Like that pair of fitflops, those were not bad at all.) The fact that they exist makes it all the more strange that middle-aged women are instead buying these orthopedic-looking just simply unattractive shoes.
So....which sandals would you recommend for OP? Here is the updated request:
OP again, again-- I think what I really want this year is a walkable sandal, with a back strap and arch support, with a 1-2 inch heel or wedge, in a soft metallic or neutral that kinda disappears on the foot. (You know what I mean? Does that make sense?) The t-strap thing isn't that big of a deal. Again, thank you for all the responses! I wish I could wear many of these suggestions.

A woman who has sad, bad aesthetic judgments will look at a stylish item and a badly done item and they look essentially the same to her if, say, both are shoes. Be merciful actually stylish posters! They’re largely style-blind ‘round here.

I'm going to knock my head into a wall.
Seriously though, how old are you?
These sandals are the definition of "middle age woman who has given up".
I didn't realize there was an age limit to being on DCUM. Perhaps you'd feel better on "hot young things whose feet never hurt!" I think that's a real rip roarer of a board.
And it's middle aged, not middle age.
FWIW I go speak at a college class once a year, and the kids there were all wearing sandals like the ones in this thread. So for all you know, hot young thing, we're all 20.
You are telling me that college kids were wearing this?
You are lying.
Yes, that is what I am telling you. I was just at the class last week, and was noticing what the kids were wearing. They all had a very casual, sort of cool, surfy look - in various iterations. Some were more gothy, some were more trendy, whatever - but they were very casual and comfortable, and wearing shoes like these.
Please tell me you know the difference between birks/chunky reef sandals and the posted picture.
