“Gravy” train

It’s the Mendo defiance of Congress. It’s the Council vomiting incompetence all of over the Democrats, and the President in the run up to the next elections. It’s about Mendo’s twitter hand being the Chairman (oh, the arrogance). It’s about the stuff like below — you don’t care for the residents. You care to keep
your heavy train because you are (especially now) otherwise unemployable. Who’s going to give a job to Nadeau or Allen? For what competence and track record? You are DONE. You’ve anyway ruined the statehood prospects so there’s nothing to lose in opposing you at every step despite your lies to the contrary, you are a national embarrassment.

DC Council is making another (deliberate?) miscalculation in saying that this was about the lowered maximums. Most of us are liberals who believe in rehabilitation and in fact would have gone for even lower maximums.

This is about deliberate ignoring of the residents, refusal to utter the words crime or murder or criminal outside of the bill, ideological behaviors, lack of minimums, and jury trials for misdemeanors.

It’s about the consulting $$$ flowing to the ill-equipped but politically acceptable consultants for the writing of this bill and programs like violence interrupters (founded by a wifebeater). It’s about the incompetence, tonedeafness, corruption.

This has nothing to do with the statehood. I supported it but I feel relieved that the Congress stepped in. People in my neighborhood whooped and celebrated last night.

People hate your incompetence and arrogance. Resign.

Oh right, because D.C. was very close to getting statehood before the current D.C. Council was sworn in/before crime started rising, and now the only thing stopping it is who's on the Council, as opposed to, say, the fact that the House is under Republican control and won't vote for D.C. statehood no matter what?

The correlation is established -- and casual. The proposed soft on crime new code establishes shorter sentences for several violent crimes'. Most violent crime in DC, over 90%, is committed by persons who have committed prior crimes. Letting them out onto our streets sooner and in greater numbers, means 1) they are on the streets to commit crimes, 2) They are also less afraid of penalties when caught. That per se makes the city more dangerous for both residents and tourists, and creates more innocents victims among the >90% of people who war law abiding.

I myself support opposition of death penalty but if its saving perpetrators and harming innocents then we may need to review it. Most importantly enforce prevention so things don't escalate.

You are quoting a lobbying group for criminal defense lawyers ("DC justice") that is clealry mischaracterizing a think tank's ("Heritage") findings. That Heritage think tank finding was about reforming/removing non-violent victimless crime laws no one thinks should be a crime. That is not the same at all as reducing penalties for violent crimes with victims.
