Bowser yanked his leash? She did nothing of the sort. She caught a giant political break because some smart Virginia politicians told Ted he could go fly a kite.

Now Ted is relegated to issuing overhyped Tweets about an aging facility in a declining neighborhood he wanted to leave behind.

LOL the arena is fine. I was there for Madonna and the arena has great sight lines, good amenities, is well-ventilated, and is clean & well managed. I'm not even sure what needs to be upgraded - maybe some mechanicals? MSG in NYC is in much worse condition, imho.

Schwalb's letter last week was the TKO punch, after Ted was getting dozens of body blows from Bowser and Louise Lucas. Like a good little doggy, he came back to mommy and will extend the lease to 20250 for the original offer.

Ted wasted so much time and money....for nothing. How humiliating.

You're giving the DC government, including the AG, way too much credit.

When the Commanders move back to DC, you're going to really eat your humble pie.

That's happening too.

These posts aged really poorly

Anonymous wrote:The legacy of Mayor Muriel "Crime for All" Bowser will be losing the Capitals and the Wizards to Virginia and making DC a criminals-friendly city.

Now, she can populate Capital One Arena with drug addicts, vagrants, and persons with mental health problems through his beloved Housing First policy and Section 8 vouchers.

Anonymous wrote:Governor Youngkin just became Senator Youngkin with this. The only thing that would poison this is if he can't fend off the demand for so-called "affordable" housing that would spike costs and bring gang-related crime to the area. But I think President Trump will be able to stop that nonsense given Governor Youngkin standing down from the presidential race this year.

Anonymous wrote:Like I said last night this will be a boon to Alexandria’s finances. This proposed stadium and the density is everything the Potomac Yard small area plan was envisioning.

Anonymous wrote:The Lerner family must be psyched. They can now ask for a retractable dome and a tank full of sharks with laser beams on their heads. The city now has zero negotiating power.

Anonymous wrote:Looks like the H street/china town/ gallery place area is going to fall into a black hole dump like it was pre the capital one arena being built. Someone remind me, what was in that space before?

Anonymous wrote:Losing the caps and the wizards is a genuine disaster for DC. The entire downtown was revitalized because of that arena. City revenues will fall off the cliff.

You think maybe now the mayor and the city council might do something about crime? It's just a couple of hundred repeat offenders. The police know who they are. Maybe arrest them? Put them in prison? Just a thought. Instead of losing a city.

But as always, this is entirely on the DC residents that voted for these people.

Anonymous wrote:This was at 10pm, 12 hours before the ceremony in VA. I mean, they are scrambling now, but why was nothing done before instead of nattering on about media vouchers and other silly pet projects? And why did his truancy hearing start well over 2 hours late today, without so much as a notice on the feed? They are all an embarrassment.

+1.

The mayor of the city knew about this for at least 6 months and didn't say anything to his constituents that live within ear- and eye-shot of this BS. It's obscene, really. Then, he threw a tantrum when the big boys moved on and excluded him in talks with Tysons. Total hypocrite.

Wilson's has major egg on his face. I say that having voted for him twice, and will likely not when he goes for Beyer's seat.

But honestly, every single player in this plan failed miserably. JBG, Youngkin, Leonsis, and the mayor (and current city council). They're all equally terrible and embarrassing. Such a waste of everyone's time and money. I'd love to see a FOIA of how much money was wasted just trying to piece together this marginally half assed plan.

And will you be voting for the council members who so enthusiastically supported this? They all supported it BTW, eagerly maneuvering for their photo op. Their flip flopping now that it was safe to is laughable.

I'm aware they all supported it--this speaks to their idiocy. I'll happily vote for the newcomers who spoke out against it. They can't be worse than the last minute flip floppers.

To be clear, I'm not against flip-flopping when one becomes educated about projects. But the current councilmembers only changed their tune at the last minute. They also very, very clearly were not asking important questions as soon as the plan was announced. F em.

NIMBYs had nothing to do this. PY more attention and stop dividing local citizens over legitimate concerns about this proposal. You are why people don’t trust YIMBYs, you don’t care about details; even when they are legitimate, and you are more interested is deriding the other side than addressing those concerns.

From the JBG statement on the collapse of the Potomac Yard’s arena plan. What “pay to play influences” in the legislature are they referring to?

“However, the opportunity was ultimately derailed due to partisan politics, special interests, and potential pay-to-play influences in the Virginia legislature.”

It's frustrating what a disappointment Potomac Yard has been... I'm sitting in it as I type this and been around the area nearly 20 years.

Something tells me you don't navigate PY on a remotely regular basis.

Practically every day for the last 20 years one way or the other.

So, what disappoints you?

I've lived in Alexandria for 25 years. I've seen PY go from vacant land into a well-planned area with mixed housing, retail, and commercial properties. The recent opening of the Metro station is a huge plus. So is the upcoming Virginia Tech campus.

PY never needed an arena to be successful and I was steadfastly against Glenn and Ted's plan. The shopping center will be redeveloped as leases expire in a few years. I think the area has a vibrant future ahead.
