Its not a league. Its a selective team.

A league? WTH?

Yes, a league, where sports teams get together and play each other, usually for a championship. One that was more elite than what you find in DC, given the involvement of players in the New York area where the best lacrosse players in the nation are from. That is what I assumed.

Sweetlax is a lacrosse club based in upstate New York. They also have teams that are based in Florida. A few kids from DC area (Loudoun county, I think) have played for Sweetlax in the recent past. They probably had a connection to one of the coaches or some other specific reason to go up there.

Different poster. But why so vulgar and condescending lax dad? Guys like you feed into the awful stereotype.

you might have some kids turn 16 in May or June but its extremely rare to turn 16 in the fall of your freshman year.

Thanks. We are coming from a different area with a different cutoff date, so I wanted to see where DS stands before we apply for next year. I guess DS is already redshirted enough -- he is nowhere near high school-age now but will be turning 16 in Oct. of sophomore year. Thanks for helping me not look like crazy sports mom on the tours this fall.

Turning 16 in the fall of your sophomore year is NORMAL. My son turned 16 in the Spring of his sophomore year and he is one of the younger kids in his (all-boys school) class. It has gotten completely ridiculous. I do think (hope) that the new NCAA recruiting rules will reverse the red-shirting trend to some degree.

16 in October of sophomore year is exactly on target for VA at least. Our sophomore has a November birthday and the cut off is Sept 30 so there was no way around that. Same for your kid. That said we know of kids with May birthdays that were held back - often they were twins, preemies etc so it makes sense to hold them a bit longer. Those kids turned 16 awhile ago.

So in terms of redshirting in the DC area for lax, would a freshman who turns 16 in October the way outside the norm, within normal limits, or par for the course?
