According to FCPS, Lewis IS fine. That's why they don't need to move kids out of hugely overcrowed WSHS next door to Lewis. Because Lewis is just fine and doing great. Who needs classes, clubs, or sports teams?

Its crazy. Westfield is only at 2083 kids with their "final" proposal, and that's before the people they are trying to move somehow pay a bribe and get moved back which has been the pattern this whole proce. They could end up with only 1800 kids zoned, and much fewer showing up to actually attend. At a school for 2800 kids! right next to schools that are overcrowded!

The docs say they are estimating around 90 kids will be added to Stone for AAP. Um, where? The school will be completely full to the brim under the current scenario?

And they will all be moved from Rocky Run, which will only be 84% capacity under these proposals *with* the Stone AAP kids.

Where's the list of FCPS HS sorted by number of students? I'd like to see it.

You are correct. The person who keeps posting over and over that Westfield is fine because it will still have a few more students than Lewis clearly lives in an area that should be moved and is desperately trying to pretend like this plan is acceptable or reasonable.

I think a school that is built for 1800 students and has always had around 1800 students is a very different scenario then taking a school that was built for 2800, currently has almost 2800 and removing 1000 kids (and associated staff/teachers) within a year or two.

You're right that the projection has Westfield at 2083, not 2150. That's still higher than nine other high schools based on all the boundary adjustments adopted and proposed: Herndon, Marshall, South County, Falls Church, Annandale, South Lakes, Mount Vernon, Skyview, and Lewis.

Interesting that this list of smallest schools also includes all the academic have-not schools people are desperate to avoid in FCPS and that FCPS ignores and refuses to improve. They are deliberately moving Westfield from a regular middle of the pack school down to the bottom tier of Avoid at All Cost schools.

If the only thing keeping Westfield in the middle of the pack was all those kids north of 50, then this was inevitable.

Not sure what your point is? Moving over a thousand kids out of any school with balanced demographics but only moving back in 200 or so mostly low income kids destabilizes any school community. Those areas have been zoned to Westfield for at least 25 years.

The current proposal is to move 386 kids into Westfield - 309 from Chantilly and 77 from Centreville. Not "200 or so."

It's still a sizable loss of students for Westfield, but Westfield would have more kids than nine other high schools in the county, including Skyview.

They stopped because they found no more low hanging fruit that wouldn’t fight back. I don’t blame the communities for trying to stay, but the county should’ve never let that happen. No they didn’t. They decided they wanted another HS in an area that didn’t have one and then they were chicken shits and backed down from doing the right thing which was to move affluent and connected neighborhoods to Westfield. It is absurd that you think it’s OK for the county to waste capacity resources and still leave Chantilly in Centerville at or over capacity. There is no excuse for the cowardly behavior. I’d give them credit if they came out and said we were too weak to make it happen.
