Why wouldnt she?

Kinda funny that the RIO moms were prominently featured in photos of a meeting with her and now she is silent on where she thinks Crossfield (outside of FMW) should go to high school. Almost like she doesn't want to stick her neck out for them.

Meren loves data. The data supports sending Crossfield to Western.

Meren wants to keep as many kids possible at SLHS to not drop test scores. She probably wants Fox Mill moved to Hughes to improve Hughes.

I suspect that she is going to be unhappy when more families start pupil placing to Western for the speciality programs. SLHS already sees people pupil place to Herndon, Langley, and Oakton for AP. Parents who want AP and not Herndon now have a school that is reasonably close by to pupil place to for AP and a specialty program. I strongly suspect that number ofr transfers out of SLHS are going to jump from the 125 or so now to well over that number in about 5 years.

I was at the meeting. The RIO moms were sitting towards the front and there were few people there so I don’t think it was a deliberate choice to feature them prominently.

What typo are you referencing? She says Fox Mill Woods neighborhood should go to Crossfield/Hughes/South Lakes. She doesn't say anything about the other parts of Crossfield. But interesting that she wants all of Fox Mill Elementary to go to Hughes it sounds like? She must know that a lot of school board members view Carson as a logical feeder to Western and wants Fox Mill out of that equation.

I think it's going to come down to either Crossfield or Lees Corner attending Western. Crossfield has gotten a head start on Lees Corner in terms of fighting the change. When are they supposed to show us a finalized Option E and whatever other options being considered?

Objectively, it makes no sense to send Lee's Corner over Crossfield. NO sense.

What are the OBJECTIVE reasons to keep Crossfield at Oakton?

I don't understand the issue with traffic and "more trips." It's basically next to Carson and actually more accessible as the street is off McLearen and wider.

And, how can this be more trips when the students will all be attending schools closer than the ones they attend now?

Agree with comments about the way this has been run. They should have started and set boundaries within short months of the purchase. One of the options presented was quite reasonable. Another one could also work. C and D which left Discovery Square (right next to the facility) at Westfield were, to me, ridiculous.

The RIO complaints are all emotional and subjective and could apply to any group that does not want to move there. Any objective person could see this.

That trip to Oakton is awful from this area.

I think you're missing the point. The issue from the perspective of the planning folks is whether the area immediately near Western and Carson can handle the additional traffic, not whether it would mean shorter commutes in the aggregate. And there will be even more cars if there are families opting into Western who ultimately aren't within the boundaries established in June.

But of course it can, there's nothing there except one per two office buildings. data centers, more data centers, and some self storage facilities. Oh and Nysmith, but nobody cares about them, half those kids will end up at Western anyway.

True. And, it is off a four lane road (McLearen) which crosses Centreville Rd (another four lane road). If they claim traffic is a problem, where can you put a school? It will be easier to access than Carson (where you have to go through the parking lot.)

Carsons traffic gets blacked up through the intersection of Centerville and McClaren most mornings around 7am due to lthe traffic light for people exiting Carson. It's a crazy backup simply because people can't get out of Carson so new cars can't get in. If you e been there you know what Im referring to.

Hopefully Western won't be effected.

Way different. Traffic light and a street not a driveway. Look at the map. At Carson you go directly into parking lot.

Bu5, what school does not have backups.

Fine, then I don’t see why you’re getting your panties all in a bunch about one or two approvals you are so certain should be no-brainers.

Do these "experts" have any common sense? Have they looked at a map?

1. The students going to Westfield cause far more traffic issues than they would to the new school. Crossfield, Floris, and Fox Mill already use that traffic pattern for Carson. They already had 1000 students going to that school, so I do not see how it could aggravate the traffic much. In fact, it would relieve traffic on 28 if kids going to Westfield from the area go to the new school. Certainly, if Oakton goes, it would relieve traffic on I66 and the winding back roads.

2. The building already has a footprint that was approved.

LOL! So, the kids going down 657 and McLearen don't already do that for Carson? So, the kids going down 657 and McLearen don't already do that to get to Westfield--unless they are going down 28?

I don't know which way McNair and Coates use to get to Westfield--I'm guessing that some use 657 and some use 28. For sure, the Floris kids are using 657 and 28. Some likely also use McLearen.

This will be reducing traffic. And, remember, there were already 1000 KAA students using McLearen. I passed many KAA buses on McLearen Rd and West Ox.
What part of a "closer commute" contributes to more traffic?

Fairfax is congested enough as it is, so I don't begrudge county planning people taking a look at this to make sure FCPS isn't creating any unforeseen traffic chock-holds around McLearen and 657.
