Rep. Roy (R-TX) should be overjoyed that open hearings are coming.

All you Republicans who have spent half this thread bitching about process - I thought you’d be overjoyed by this news. Where are you?

I suppose they could. It will just reaffirm how dirty the Trump Administration has been on this. Go for it.

Most judges would remove this juror and not allow them to participate in a proceeding. Of course, Impeachment and removal is not a judicial process, but still...

He’s a disgrace.

At this point is anyone else wondering just what the blackmail is? Selling children? Pedophile dungeon under his house? In a relationship with his brother? I used to just assume it was rude rumors, but Lindsey is NUTS.

I wonder! I can’t figure out what dishonor is worse than the dishonor of defending the crimes of a a narcissistic, abusive, mean, sociopath.

I really can’t either.

The treachery of the GOP is absolutely mind boggling.

1) Trump will be impeached. McConnell/Senate has a trial for removal. MConnell is fundraising on never removing Trump. So yes, he will still be president in November when he stands for election. The GOP in the Senate will run the risk of an outraged American public voting them out.

2) McConnell has a challenger for 2020. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2019/10/10/amy-mcgrath-raises-10-7-million-race-against-mitch-mcconnell/3934531002/

Why is it that getting a b-job and then lying about it worse than Trump's offense? Hmmm...doesn't add up.

Perhaps Republicans could tell us clearly what is a high crime and a misdemeanor and also which parts of the Constitution are now irrelevant. I really need a bright line because I am very confused by this line of defense

This is not complicated: an impeachable offense is what 67 Senators deem to be such. It is a political and legal determination - and has always been so. George W Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq on a lie causing the death of tens of thousands of Americans and Iraqis was inexcusable and an abuse of power IMO but nothing happened to him.

Ultimately, the decision to impeach is political.

Yes, it is political, but let's think about what the word "political" means and all that it encompasses. The groundwork for the constitution is laid in the notes of the convention. We have a president who betrays his polity--the civil society and government in which he office exists. In his efforts to win re-election and to more generally insist on his "stable genius" image, he defies the will of the people (as expressed by Congress) to try to force another nation to target a citizen of his own country. In the course of this, he uses his own attorney to back channel his own government, betraying the official US delegation to said foreign country--and doing this hand in hand with individuals who are now accused criminals. Previously, of course, he has employed a now-convicted criminal who had engaged in corrupt practices with former leaders of that same country.

But "he has done nothing wrong"!!
