For sure. The photo of Rubio wearing these shoes, which are obviously a couple sizes too big is both hilarious and incredibly disheartening.

Rubio is not a stupid man, so how much does it crush him to have sold his soul to Trump and kowtow to him?

Rubio is a ruthless, power hungry man who wants to be the next president. He will do whatever it takes for power even if it means wearing ill-fitting shoes.

Nah. He’s a weak sycophant. If he were actually ruthless, he’d be persuading the rest of the Cabinet to 25 Trump. It’s clear Trump is not compos mentis and Rubio could get a majority of the Cabinet to agree. Hegseth would probably be the only holdout. Congress would agree also. Trump has become a huge liability.

He's only a liability when the base stops supporting him. That hasn't happened yet.

The Trump era GOP base supported him throughout his 1st term and yet Trump's low approval ratings caused him to be a liability to his party.

The Dem base continued to support Biden throughout his term and yet his low approval numbers caused him to be a liability to his party.

When presidents are unpopular to the extent they become a liability to their party, it's because they've lost a large percentage of the swing vote who either won't vote or will cast a vote for change. The GOP and Dem bases continue to be reliable in their partisan support. It's the true swing voter 10% of the electorate who determine elections and when the POTUS approval rating is consistently around 40% or below, the POTUS has lost that swing vote and they're party suffers.

I don't understand the shoe thing. Rubio isn't poor. Just buy the same shoe in a different size. I doubt Trump is checking the sizes daily and it appears that they are just random $200 Florsheim shoes... buy 5 pairs if it makes Trumpy feel better. But then again, I am functioning with more brain power than the whole cabinet combined even in my perimenopause fog.

Not to go off track but Marco Rubio actually is pretty poor. He may need those free shoes. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kylemullins/2024/11/13/heres-how-little-trumps-pick-for-secretary-of-state-marco-rubio-is-worth/

This becomes more frightening by the hour. Trump has lost his mind and neither the Cabinet nor Congress is doing a thing. What could Trump possibly do to them?

Hate Trump. But if this was an ordinary guy, it would be kind of cute. He buys shoes he likes for his cabinet.

Yes if it was your elderly dad doing that for friends it would be very sweet, albeit odd. I guess it is one of the few signs we’ve ever had that Trump has a considerate or generous bone in his body, so there’s that.

My FIL, from Brooklyn not Queens and about 15 years older than Trump, literally gave my DH a pair of Florsheims almost every year for Christmas, into his 30s. He lived through the Depression and it affected him forever; new shoes during that period were the ultimate sign of doing OK despite everything. So even though I’m programmed to think of this as just nice old outer borough man stuff, I still think Trump doing it is deeply weird.

Did your FIL get your DH a pair of shoes that correctly fit his feet?

I think you are missing the point of why Trump did it. This is done to humiliate his staff and to show them who is boss.

He did not check sizing because 1) he does not care 2) when they wear the wrong size, it just shows that Trump "holds the cards." If Rubio changes size, T might notice and have a tantrum.

The problem is that it is Trump and he's not doing it out of the kindness of his heart. There is a coercive aspect to it. They must wear their Trump shoes as a demonstration of fealty. Sends shivers down my spine.

I read that epstein did the same thing, but I do not have any proof to share. If epstein also did this, just would show that those two are basically the same person.

It's more appealing to me when people are vulnerable. Trump can never be wrong and that looks weak.

Wait, isn’t it somewhat likely that TRUMP has at least a little bit of dyslexia? I always assumed that was the explanation for why he often seems to struggle with reading the teleprompter and won’t read briefing materials.

100%. But he was never diagnosed and people worked around it his whole life. Often when he’s criticizing someone for something, it’s something that it true of him. So Newsome is upfront about his dyslexia, has dealt with it and makes appropriate accommodations, which Trump just thinks is a shocking sign of weakness (probably because of his abusive dad). (The story in the Newsome interview was I think about how if he is doing a teleprompter speech, he needs to stay really focused on it to get through it. This might also be why when Trump goes off teleprompter, he is really far off for a while. It’s hard to look away and then get back on track with the reading according to Newsome. Also, I think he might be talking about the Kimmel interview of Newsome -/ if so, and Trump is still watching Kimmel, that is hilarious. It would make Kimmel so happy to know that he’s so far under Trumps skin.

He and Vance are cut from the same cloth in that way. Will be kind of interesting to see how they turn on each other.
