I don't believe NM will do anything for GFR in his capacity as the TD. GFR fired their previous TD and, it seems, they quickly hired NM so, on paper, they could say that they have a TD. The e-mail that was sent out to GFR families said that DMV FC teams and coaches would be joining GFR starting in 24/25 but the hiring of NM as the GFR TD and ML as the GFR DOC was apparently effective immediately. They are both listed (with their titles) on the GFR website at https://www.gfrsoccerclub.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1209808. Until a few days ago, the "term expiration" column for both NM and ML said "per signed contract" but then someone edited the page to remove those references. Thus far, anyway, there have been no communications to GFR families from NM nor, to the best of my knowledge, has he attended or been involved with GFR teams in any way. So what is GFR paying for?
His NIL 🤣

Anonymous wrote:Yeah. VRSC is gonna be fine. Just ask questions if you have them. They are building some good teams.

No but it certainly changes the urgency and the approach to solve the problem. From all accounts the MYS boys leadership were not included in negotiations. The girls leader NM led this move and it had nothing to do with their program. Begs the question if the threat was real to begin with if they lied about the girls being in danger. What other options could they have explored. Let Brave die and the Girls take the players anyways and there is no disruption of staff. Lose boys ecnl and the Boys play USYS NL since that’s their level anyways and keep the coaching staff and parents happy. Or maybe attempt a bid for Boys MLS next with BRYC and Vienna? If the league kicks boys and brave out they can’t stop a move to another league. Would be a strong play to really improve all clubs. The league wouldn’t allow that type of move hence the threat not really being a threat. This was a wet dream of NM and he played his card well. Give up boys control to Brave and he get a new source of talent to recruit from (since when has NM developed a young player), and expand his footprint of totalfutbol camps. Genius move.
Doesn't seem smart to me? NM had multiple ECNL teams as did the other McLean coaches. Now they each have only 1 and MV has 2. Seems like VYS out maneuvered the McLean crew. If they had just let BRAVE die those girls would have come to Union anyways. Now they just gave up control. In 5 years this will just be Vienna ECNL. CW is going to retire. NM and crew will start up a new club. You saw it here first.
PP —- the threat was to girls. Your boys can’t suck or you are all out. I have no doubt McLean tried much of what you suggest. I bet they even called VDA and Arlington to see about a merger. At the end of all that they were left with Brave or join GA. There is no other way to read this. They were screwed.
Contradicting emails received. McLean parent here. The one from the board said boys and girls both in trouble and ECNL said they had to merge. The one yesterday from NM said girls are doing great and they didn’t need to merge. Town hall should be amazing

Must get a good chunk of change holding both of those positions.

All the McLean 2012 girls showed up for SYC tryouts, and none made the team? oooff that was a broken union.
Should be plenty of McLean girls looking to make this Union then, and that explains the neuroticism. 2 McLean girls offered when whole team attended ID so confirming yes they are looking for a home wit FVU
Some Mclean 12s already accepted SYC offers.
People will really commute from McLean to Springfield for 12yo soccer?
Wow. Apparently I don't love my kids enough.
Another blindly privileged McLean parent speaking out of their arse. Do you realize how lucky you are to have all these options to choose from within a 15-20 mile radius and you wouldn't choose a team because of what traffic?
NP, but YES! I can't imagine a much worse drive (other than McLean to Montgomery Co) multiple times a week during rush hour (which is when those practices usually are). Were were a pretty hard-core soccer family at that age, but we didn't regret it one bit when we cut drive time to practice by 50%.
Play along with a McLean parent:
6p practice in Springfield. Have to leave home at 5:15 at the latest. Have to stay b/c there is barely time to get back home and get back for pickup. Practice ends at 7:30. Get home at 8:00. Start dinner......
Or 6p practice in McLean. Leave at 5:40, back home by 6:10, have an hour to prepare dinner, workout, drive the other kid to their practice, etc, before pickup at 7:30. Home at 7:40 and dinner is partly/mostly prepared...
Plus, having practice so far away pretty much eliminates the possibility/benefit of having one parent drop off and the other pick up.
We ARE lucky to have all these choices, which is why we don't have to drive 30+ minutes away for every practice.
Not gonna lie, I'm doing about a 35-40 minute soccer commute right now and it's pretty grueling. I'm definitely enjoying it for what it is, but it does preclude any other evening activities several nights a week.

Anonymous wrote:ECNL made Mclaen and Brave combine for the boys but the girls was up to the clubs...NM pushed for it so he could be DOC. Promotion for him and his career and CW and LW and the BOD went along for the rid. If things do not work out he'll just go to another club. Most importantly though is there a parent out there who's DD likes playing for him? I have not met one people just put up with him.
