Agreed with pp that oakton will be average or meh, probably below average. Oakton mom can certainly have her opinion, but the only real threat to score next year is #21.
Let’s move on.
I like Madison for the win again but it should be a close exciting game

Battlefield is as good as oakton, Madison, Robinson, Woodson. Only real chances to win states come from here. I’d truly be shocked if state title wasn’t of this group. Not a bold prediction I understand.

Game lines:

Woodson -11 vs Justy
Robinson - 4 vs West Springfield
Oaken -6 vs Madison. Lessons learned.

Centreville posters please go away. Your futile attempts to be relevant all year are pathetic. Infighting posters bashing teammates and coaches. Transparent posts pretending to be anonymous pumping your daughters “killing” it and “crushing it” with zero results to support your bias while posing as hero dad defending the unbiased and more accurate replies. Centreville season is nothing but a total fail. Not one good win despite your player awards including self awarded most improved. Pick a side for the final 8 and gain some reality for next year. Good luck btw

Good post overall, but I'll take Madison +6 for sure. Will be a close one and either team can win.

Clearly you have not been paying attention. Oakton returns two of its top three midfielders (#21 and #10), has young starters on attack that score regularly, a young goalie that has done well in limited action this season, and a freshman with the fluidity, speed, and stick skills to fill #11’s role. When Oakton pulled its starters against Westfield and McLean, Oakton’s bench easily outplayed and out scored those teams’ starters. Sleep on Oakton next year at your own peril.

Oakton will be meh next year. I will sleep very well thank you very much.

Who is the freshman coming in at Oakton that is going to fill #11 role?

Please stop, Langley will be decent next year because lots of seniors will be graduating this year, including almost the whole starting oakton team. The hard truth is this- the langley head coach will crush the players again and not understand how to coach and or lead coming down the stretch. Just look at the last 2 years. She is in over her head and she knows it. Yes, there are some good players at langley and they will carry the team.
Yorktown will be good next year as they are young, same with Madison as they reload. Oakton (this is their year) will be bottom of the pack next year. Just my 2 cents...

Just say my goalie is better or even more mature, my goalie is great!

Or are you going to try and convince us a non-Langley parent felt compelled to jump in the Yorktown/Langley debate?

McLean or Marshall maybe?

There is another team with a goalie better than both according to the coaches…

Anonymous wrote:What a great night of lacrosse in Fairfax yesterday. My daughter (who did not play for any of the teams we watched last night) was home from college and I made her come with me to watch this double-header. I miss these games! As much as we try, the parents cannot replicate this in college. Girls going all out in front of their classmates and families, moms and dads apoplectic when their daughter is shoved a little (even if their daughter may, possibly flopped a bit), and the DC Urban Moms lacrosse thread!

If I was doing a halftime show for VHSL girls tournament lacrosse, these would have been my stories.

1) DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE – all four teams, Centreville, Madison, Oakton, and Yorktown had awesome defenses. All four were very physical and quick to help. Every goal by every team was well earned! My daughter is a defender, and I could see a lot of girls tonight moving on to the next level as defenders. Also helps that all four teams were anchored by solid goaltending – every goalie I saw made at least two incredible saves.

2) D1 Commits are legit! JMU, Pitt, ODU, Cincinnati, Rhode Island (and anyone I missed) are getting some good players. All play hard, attack lose balls, and are smart. The difference in both games was a Senior D1 Commit, JMU for Oakton and Cincy for Madison. Their teams followed their lead. Extra kudos to Madison because #9 literally put the team on her shoulders and got them back into it in the second half. Looked like a bunch of great sophomores according to my program and I’m sure they are going to find great homes as well.

3) Coaches need to watch some college ball. First of all, great high school coaching happened out there. They all must run great programs because all four teams had well-run offenses (Oakton’s offense was so, so, so patient – a masterclass!) and solid D. However, face-guarding took one great player out in one game and another team executed a nearly 7-minute stall. There are adjustments that coaches can make to counter those tactics – if they are practiced. Until we get smart and get a shot clock, there is going to be more stalling.

4) Favorite subplot of the night: Madison #9 vs Yorktown #33. Those two went at it like heavyweight fighters except it wasn’t puncher on puncher but shooter on goalie! As I said earlier, all the goalies played great and made some big-time saves but Yorktown’s was on another level. She made a crazy Dominic Hasek, kick save while in a split against an absolute rocket from #9. I think she had like 15 total saves! But that doesn’t mean #33 had #9’s number, not by a long shot! She had the hardest shot I think I’ve ever seen in a high school game for one of her goals in the first half. Wow! She must have led her team in scoring on a team with great scorers. Great job to both girls!

5) Refs – there is no answer. One thing I’m sure everyone can agree on, the refs screwed your team. I completely understand why all four teams’ fans thought the refs were on the other team’s side. There is no rhyme or reason, let alone consistency. I think the Oakton/Centerville was a little better refereed but even there I wasn’t sure what was going on. They let them play in the first half and someone must have told them they hadn’t reached their monthly speeding ticket quota so they started pulling over everyone in the second half! We need to pay refs more money to try and get better people off the street, get them better training, US Lacrosse needs to provide better guidance on the rules so it is easier for them to understand if it is a foul or it is not, and they should get grades for accountability. Each team had at least one no-call where their girl got mauled and one enormous head-scratcher where the parents around me were trying to decipher what had even happened.

6) Vienna Inn, like posting on DC Urban Moms, the Vienna Inn is still one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Got to be honest, might have ducked out with 5 minutes left to go hit one of my favs! My wife will not go there with me and, after a lacrosse season with no drinking for my daughter, I paid her for joining me on my nostalgic high school lacrosse night with a couple of beers at the old Vienna Inn. I just need someone to answer one question, why is everyone’s parking lot in downtown Vienna look pristine but the Vienna Inn’s looks like it was just mortared?

Thank you for reading. See you in Oakton on Friday!

Yorktown #33 was huge for them last season and was on our scouting reports this year - and I'm sure every team who played against Yorktown. She is incredibly fun to watch - will she be able to lead Yorktown back to a championship next year?

Is she a Junior?

A sophomore - I think. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Yes!! YT is going to have a whole in that program for sure next year! One of the best Goalies in NOVA!
