Parent of multiple kids in the club here - not sure where this statement comes from. Both my kids played in 2 tournaments this fall, which is the same as the vast majority of clubs that get talked about in here. They're not always the same ones, in part because the beginning of the year the club decided to almost entirely skip the OGBC tournament we've done the past year or two because was early in covid come back and decided to avoid, so later in the season when parents were more comfortable, they played. Not sure where that connection becomes plays a lot of tournaments, but they're pretty straight forward about it.
As for the other post about firing a coach for losing state cup - I'm not aware of any coaches leaving the organization over the fall/winter, so maybe drop a name of the coach supposedly fired or at least an age group and let's see if that's accurate. My son is younger so I have less direct perspective on the teenage boys side, although have friends with teenage boys who have loved the MLSNext teams. In fact, there's been a few new coaches brought in fall, but most of the changes happened 2 years ago.
Like anywhere, your team and the things they choose to do are directly related to their coach as well as the kids and their desire to do other things and the parents desire to support that. You can see that if you care to look anywhere at the indoor/outdoor leagues and tournaments playing all over the DMV though. Very few (if any) are doing official club things, but I've seen nearly every team jersey out there over the winter as we go to or from a field.

For age groups with MLS Next, “MLS”. That’s the 2007 and 2008 boys.
Blue: 1st team
Orange: 2nd team
White: 3rd team
Black: 4th team
4 teams in the 2007 age ? Wow do they not cut players?
Amount of teams in age groups vary but it doesn’t matter because if your not fast they wont care about developing. Parent meeting’s at beginning of year are big into “development over wins” but it’s not true. Most practices (for my DS) haven’t even been coaches coaching, they rely on fast players run fast as they scrimmage. We’ve been told “the game teaches the best” which makes me questioning what do they even know? But practices just become foot races, which means games are very kickball. Wanted to leave but COVID. Not a bad club but DS wants to play soccer in college, not play kick ball in college.
Not a bad place but it’s not what we were told two years ago when new staff came in not that old staff was better. To answer your “why not cut?” because it is money.
Oof. This is tough, because US college soccer IS kickball, and SYC actually seems like they do a good job of screening/preparing players for exactly this brand of garbage. Here's a link to the 2019 Championship game between Georgetown and Virginia. Just watch the first 60 seconds of this trash:

And no, the coaching cadre doesn't teach the kids the game lol
When I clicked on the link, the first 60 seconds was a long ball by the keeper then several passes, a cross in, a deflection and goal. Did you not like the long ball by the keeper?
