Already answered, he donates his salary so no taxes are due on it.

To whom does he donate his salary? With very limited exceptions, charitable contributions are limited to 50% of your AGI.

He says he donates his Presidential salary to various government agencies, and fact checkers seem to agree.

That is one of the limited exceptions. You may choose which agencies and which governments of or within the United States to fund.

Thats not true. He would still have today taxes and fica on the salary. And the charity has to be itemized, so only 34% of it is deductible.

This tweet is pretty interesting. Explains part of his desperation to stay in office.

Yes he can. Sovereign foreign wealth, just like Kushner's randomly came up with $600 million from Qatar, was it?

Well, paid that way...sure, you’re obviously right. The MBS bailout plan.

I have. That's a lot of depreciation, but that isn't the only issue on his returns. He has huge debts. This is what I always thought. It just reinforces my belief that he is actually broke on paper, staying just one step ahead his creditors.

Leverage, like depreciation, is part and parcel of anyone who is in real estate. You may as well blame a hokey player for having skates and a stick.

Yeah, I get it. So why did he hide it? You and I both know there only two reasons, one of which has just been confirmed and the other is under investigation by the DA.

Because he knows that ignorant people like many people in this thread would not understand and become useful idiots to Democrats looking to vilify him.

Yup, I'm ignorant, and I vote. Sorry he was afraid to just tell the truth. That's even worse.

*shrug*, I commend you on taking your civic duties seriously. Regardless of how you decide who to vote for, the important things is that you give it some thought and participate in the process. The more people that do this, the less useful idiots there would be. The reason wealthy people who have not broken any laws keep their finances private is for the same reason why lawyers advise innocent people to not talk to the police without representation.

The reason politicians release their tax returns is so stupid people like me can see they are transparent. If you don't want to do this, don't go into politics. People might think yoi are hiding something. And apparently they'd be right. I assumed he paid $0 tax and he didn't want me to know that, and voted accordingly. Now I see he paid $0, he's right, I don't like it, and I'm still voting the same way.

Well, clearly, this thread proves that you are wrong. As you can see from the reactions in this thread, people are accusing Trump of breaking the law due to their lack of understanding of real estate investments, depreciation, and debt leverage. I grant that the lay person can understand other people's tax returns which are similar to theirs - within a few multiples, but not an order of magnitude or more. Heck, I would even grant that most people would be able to digest financial information if they could rely on a fair and balanced media to provide useful analysis and context. We are in an environment where the media is there to hide/distort the truth on both sides - Fox, MSNBC, CNN, and NYT, to name a few. The common lay person simply has no relevant knowledge or reliable authority to make any meaningful judgement on the information. Again, the wild accusations thrown around in this thread *PROVES* this point.

You understand this goes beyond the tax liability right ? That is just the tip. He is in debt, that he guaranteed. He has to pay up. He is using the federal govt to enrich himself and prop up his business. Problem is he is to stupid to do it right. You trumpeters will harp on the 750.00, and zero tax to deflect. The debt and what he will do to pay it is the real issue. Russian are you listening?

I have not seen any proof, documentation, or even reasonable analysis based on circumstantial evidence, that would point to Trump having debt which he would not be able to repay. Yet again, debt is a normal component of real estate transactions.

You are nobody. You would not be privileged to see that documentation. A good businessman understands debt and uses it to their advantage. He is a con man, with years of behavior that aligns to not understanding how business works. The article references 300 million in debt, with as many losses / write offs as his taxes imply something is wrong.

Like I said, I'm stupid, but I'm not that stupid. He didn't want people to see that be paid $0. Of course he doesn't want anyone to see, because stupid people know exactly what that means and they don't like it, even if it's legal.

It's not just legal, but it is not even the full facts, which is why anyone who draws conclusions on this is ignorant. Because there are people like you who react the way you do, Trump was perfectly logical in his efforts to keep his finances private.

You are one of those people who disregard all the warning signs until it is too late and the triggerman has already placed a bullet in your head. WAKE UP!

Huh. As a leftie, I know what carried interest is, but I don't "do the same as 45." I work for a living and my trouble I get to pay significantly more in taxes than he does.

+1, this is not an issue of carried interest.

I am not sure if it is one single entity, but department of health and human services is one I remember.

He gives back his government paychecks to government agencies. They’re not charities.

The article also says that he is personally on the hook for about 500M in loans in 2022. He can't afford to lend his campaign money. He doesn't have any.

Of course! He wanted a new show and investments...basically CASH!

He and Jared were hoping to launch a right wing multimedia company if he lost, right? Basically something like Newsmax/OANN to challenge the more-so establishment right wing Fox News.

Well, his plan to prevent that certainly worked out swimmingly.

I don't think even Trump expected to keep everything secret. But to the extent that he can, he has tried. Because of the limited nature of these leaks, Trump is able to control the narrative to some extent. I mean, it's one thing to have a full set of released documents, but quite another to have unpublished documents from an anonymous source, reference by an article written by NYT.
