Even being 'holistic' doesn't work. Google basically flat out said they weren't hiring/promoting and more straight white or asian men. Not sure you can make a 'cut' when a company like Google says they won't promote/hire you because of you DNA.

You need to take a chill pill....I'm actually agreeing with the students that it is pretty messed up that they need to score a lot higher on their MCATs because they're Asian. But I can see where what I previously wrote was pretty bad (insane was meant in that context to mean there is a lot of bitterness [if you could quantify it] that Asian students have wrt this issue. It wasn't meant to mean that 'it's crazy that Asian students are bitter about the issue'; bad writing on my part - I was being lazy).

Got it. I can appreciate that you understand their sentiments. It’s an invisible to most people, uphill battle. In FFX county it starts even earlier. There is this craziness about AAP, that also effectively has more stringent quotas. It’s not as obvious but you see it in the very subjective teacher reports and with borderline test results.

And I’m not even an AAP parent, my Asian kid has learning disabilities. I’ve had an uphill battle getting his services because they expect me to be a ‘tiger’ mom getting him multiple tutors so they don’t have to allocate resources to him, resources that are better reserved for URM. They even put him in an ESOL reading class (my son is 3rd generation, we only speak English at home) rather than provide an appropriate reading program for his specific learning disability.

I understand you’re probably tired, but the proper message matters and yes that takes more thinking and effort. Thank you for acknowledging this.

White parent here. Same experience in FCPS with a dyslexic child. They kept saying there was not disability and that she was "average" and I should just accept that rather than worrying about if she would get into AAP (which I wasn't, but her sister was in AAP, so I think they made an assumption about me). FCPS, like almost every public school in the country, ignores our kids with LDs (especially if the child "looks normal" or is bright enough to score in the average range, despite a disability). It's very damaging. I'm not sure that it's a race thing (maybe). I think it's the district's effort to not have to pay to actually educate our children.

I completely understand how terrible FCPS is with Special Ed. But did they place your white child that only speaks English at home in an ESOL class? We’re talking middle school here. They put my 3rd generation, brown skinned, South Asian, only English speaking tween son in an ESOL class.

My younger son was also screened in K for ESOL No where in his registration did I list a foreign country or language. They pulled him out of class and screened him anyway and sent home the scores by mail. That’s the first time I knew they did the screening.

If they’re not of the stereotype Asian intelligence, than they must be needing ESOL.

Later colleges will see applications from an Asian male that are not perfect score SAT and 7 AP classes, where do you think they’re going to be placed in the Asian pile for admissions. They most certainly won’t make the Asian cut.
