But op complains about the stepfathers gifts. Op is delusional if she thinks stepdad should finance an adult who has never lived with him.
She is t complaint about the actual gifts, but that her mom shows more love and affection for the new kids.
It is hard, and I get that because it happens in my family, too. I don't give a hoot about presents, but when his kids get a fancy family party for their 40th and I don't even get a phone call it says something very ugly about my mom.

I've never been so grateful for my parents second spouses as after reading this thread. We were all young adults when they married so they were all there for the birth of the (now 5) grandkids and ALL have worked to embrace them all as basically the same. Obviously there are more special bonds among those that are generational but generally it's been wonderful.Maybe because adults realize that being a grandparent is an honor and privilege and treat those kids all accordingly.

Am I missing something, or were you a grown ass woman when he married your mom? Did he pay for you college tuition or post-college rent while you started your career? I'm just trying to understand if he was EVER super generous with his $ towards you.

It's definitely hard to watch your parent be all excited about indulging some other kids, especially if you still need something (eg, emotional support) from the family.
There may not be anything to do about it, but just because someone is an "adult" doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt a little.
