And it’s clear why… it’s almost impossible after U12 or so to catch up. Practice frequency and qualify is so dramatically different it is stark by U14. Plus the private training industry, which as a non insider I had no idea existed til quite late. So the narrative that RL teams get developed is absolute garbage. Yeah, I’m a bit bitter for my thousands of dollars.
Why would anyone on a RL team expect to move up? Even if they train exactly the same as the NL team, both the NL and RL players are continually developing and the NL player already started at a higher level of play. A RL who wants to go higher needs to work harder than everyone else, and they means work at home.
Obviously it means work at home. So do the NL players. What we are TOLD is that it’s fluid. What is REALITY is that it’s pretty much impossible. Even with training at home, you don’t have the competition level nor the practice intensity. That’s why is why I said we are SOLD a fantasy here. Get the girls motivated to work hard but there is not a real chance. I am not the only one who didn’t know there was such a massive difference in team and training quality at a very young age.
I think you are right. I know one of the older age groups has only ever taken 1 player from the RL teams in 5+ years. But they'll consider players from other clubs who might be no better. Shiny and new wins every time.

Issue is most girls at this age want to be on the best team so they will leave if they don’t get 1st team. RL is mishmash of talent and it’s true, club doesn’t care. 2nd teams are not where the priority is.
The 2011 team was/is very talented. The coach was in way over her head (validated by the new coaching assignments) and lazy. In the 3 week’s leading up to the playoffs the team only practiced twice. The coach complained constantly about being in North Carolina during “summer vacation”. If the team had prepared better there was a real opportunity to advance.

Which teams?
2010/2011 RL
BSC doesn’t care about RL.
Why? How do their RL teams stack up in their respective leagues?
I was PP. They actually do quite well but that wasn’t my point. All JC, KL, etc. care about is how the ECNL team performs, them making Nationals, etc. It’s all they talk about and focus on. Once you get to u13, the ECNL coach for each respective year don’t give two sh*ts about the RL teams player development. With extremely rare exception their new players are coming from the outside. They do care more at u12 and there’s recently been a track record of SC and now KL taking ECNL 2 so they can see a deeper pool firsthand, see how girls develop under them, and then choose their u13 11v11 teams.
The RL teams are profitable and help pay the salaries of KL, SC and now the new guys.
I’m sure this is not unique to Bethesda. And there isn’t anything wrong with it if your DD and you are happy with the RL team, it’s coaching and it’s travel burden for the second tier.
