The headline wasn't to play up a hate crime, it was just factual.

That's just because "we want to lower crime" is a lie. They are xenophobes who are targeting immigrants - some legal some illegal - because they are generally fearful / angry / paranoid. I haven't heard that the family considers this attack to be because of her religion. I have only heard that the police don't consider the attack to be a bias crime - more a road rage triggered attack.

I also see some similarities with the brutal crime in Springfield. But in that case, I believe that I read that the teen victim actually willingly met up with the group who brutally assaulted and murdered her and she knew her assailants. I don't know if that is true or not.

I think the sheer brutality of the attacks are what these two cases have in common. But the circumstances surrounding the attacks were quire different.

True. Headlines usually focus on what happened, though, the victims, rather than the one who did it. From a psychological perspective, that makes sense. No reason to give the criminal any more media attention.

That's some interesting armchair analysis. Again - why are you apologizing for people who are in this country illegally? Not once have I heard a reasonable response to this question.

Nobody is apologizing for undocumented people in this country. Like everything else in life, it is a question of priorities. What government services are you prepared to give up or how much higher taxes are you prepared to pay in order for the government to devote resources to rounding up and deporting millions of people who are not causing any trouble? Personally, I'd rather see law enforcement resources going arrest violent citizens than non-violent non-citizens.
