Not surprising. As much as people will deny Malia and Sasha getting into their colleges on their own merit the Obamas certainly won't be donating millions of dollars to get their daughters into the Ivy League. Wasn't Sidwell disappointed at the Obamas for only donating signed magazines at their fundraiser.
The Obamas donate every year to Sidwell. It's itemized in their tax returns which the White House releases.
Trust me I'm well aware. That's the standard. But it would be different if last year they made a multi-million dollar donation to Stanford and Harvard to try to get Malia in. Key words = get their daughters in .
Are you daft? What difference does a donation make in their case?

It might arouse the ire of many that someone like Jared C. Kushner ’03, despite what could politely be described as modest academic credentials according to the book, gained admission in the wake of a $2.5 million donation from his billionaire father. But even more galling than the thought of filthy lucre corrupting Harvard’s cherished meritocracy is the thought that the same spot could have been sold for a lot more. Filthy lucre, after all, funds useful things like stem cell research and financial aid. Selling our soul, prima facie, can be worth it—as long as we get the right price. The best way to do so is to have an auction.

This is from 12 years ago. The price of admissions have gone up considerably. I have to say SO WHAT. GOOD for the schools to get something more from these applicants who can pay more. In the end, it supports the academics for the entire student body. My friend was asked by a very wealthy client how much it would cost to get into Columbia a few years ago. 15 million was the answer. I would say that's probably increased to 20 mil today. If I had a few hundred million in the bank and it ONLY cost 20 million to get my kid in. Why not.. better give them an education then leave it in a trust. But it takes so much more than a good education for "success" in life.
As for Malia, look at those genes. Forget that she's the president's daughter. Her parents are super smart, she probably does not fall far from the tree. Will she be as accomplished.. who knows. The children of presidents rarely can live up to those high expectation. Good luck to her wherever she goes. She is already a winner of the birth lottery.
