There are local home school/independent learning options that would enable a child to take some classes in College Park in addition to the learning that is done online - parents don't teach. A friend with a nationally ranked athlete does this for her child.
And an 8th grader should be able to be home doing his/her work during the day while a parent works. Is it ideal? Maybe not. But again you are describing a desperate situation. I'm just saying there are options (there is also option of transferring to Francis Stevens, Hardy).
