The one at Marie Reed. It's older, but clean and actually nice. The lifeguards are also typically pretty nice.

We just got approved for the SP house. However, apparently it needs to pass DC inspection. I am hoping this is just a minor wrinkle and not a car crash in our plans.

/Wave doppelganger! Were you at 84? I have a few real estate agent recommendations, if you need. Two of the ones I used went well above and beyond the call of duty.

I went back and forth a lot on this decision. A part of me just wanted to live a lot closer in. We did actually find several apartments that would have worked, a few in Oyster and a few in FStevens, one in Bancroft. (None for Ross) And that one in Cooke. But we've never lived in a house. I thought it might be nice to try it. I also thought the commute to downtown looked better than the Murch house's, which would be bus to metro. And irrationally, we all fell in love with the house. Maybe it was the flowers blooming out front. Or the cuteness of the neighborhood. I do not know. It will be different. I might hate it. But it should be interesting--for all of us.

So OP where did u end up?

Wow, just read this thread -- you are my doppelganger! Also moving to DC (from North Brooklyn) with a third-grader-to-be. Husband has started work already & is commuting back on weekends. He has a temp apartment that zones us for Ross & Francis Stevens. Not sure if we should just go for one of those & hope to be able to stay wherever we end up living. Hadn't even considered Shepard Park -- it seems so remote. Feel very much the same about desire for diversity and urban convenience . . . . curious to hear where you end up!

There's also a cute dog wash place on Georgia, and the owner is an SP resident.

It's like the twilight zone. And the liquor store, charmingly, has the front door locked and only the one in the parking lot open. (We needed change for the bus, which is why we did a tour of both establishments.)

But the ethiopian stores look really cute. And the carpet cleaning place has some really impressive carpets in it. A grocery store there would be awesome, of course.

I've never been inside that pharmacy--in general, haven't been to much along Georgia Ave. besides the library (they seem to have lots of regularly scheduled kids' activities, actually) and a West Indian restaurant on near Georgia & Geranium. But again, I'm also a newbie in this neighborhood, so perhaps longer-term residents here can fill you in more than I can. (Also, I heard there may be a Harris Teeter opening up in the general area of the pharmacy, but I think that's not supposed to happen until 2015--although if it does happen, that will be beyond awesome). As for a pharmacy, I go to the CVS next to the Whole Foods in downtown SS.

Wait a few... the house needs to be inspected, apparently. I am hoping that is a formality. But yes, hopefully maybe!!

What is up with the pharmacy, also? I was counting that as a walkable amenity until I went inside. They don't seem to have very many things for sale.

So is the Shepherd Park house officially a go?? If so, welcome to the neighborhood!

OP: It's called a "granny cart," at least in New York. Have one But I am a big fan of grocery delivery now and there's three grocery stores within four blocks of us.
