So many bad films out there but since this thread is about overrated films I’ll stick to that … agreed with quite a few noms but loved some of them …

Up (touching story premise but too long and obscure handling of grief)
National Lampoon’s Animal House (how did this make it onto to so many holiday movie list recs?)

Silence of the Lambs (ground breaking at time but not all that)

Agreed. That movie was awful.

I'm not saying this hatefully in any way, but did anyone notice that Gianna Floyd speaks with the same cadence as Forrest Gump? I'm trying to figure out why a young girl speaks that way. It isn't an accent or anything. Could it be a specific cultural quirk?

I loved it though I don't like all his movies. Sally Field as usual was very good.

Annihilation was another movie that was beyond horrible. If you talk to most people they also hated it, but lib reviewers....phony as ever. I guess it's that circle that keeps giving each other rewards whether they earn it or not. That's Hollywood...

Black Panther didn’t “suck” — it was a run of the mlll Marvel movie, better than some and worse than others, with creative and interesting art and costume design that IMO deserved the Oscars that it won. The X salute was also kind of cool and my kids loved it. I also thought the subtext of the film was hopelessly racist and have no idea why it was celebrated as some sort of paean to anti-racism.

It didn't help POC that's for sure. However it was at the bottom of the barrel with Deadpool. There was nothing all that interesting about their costumes either. It's like giving Apocalypto an award for it's costumes (ridiculous). And that was an excellent movie from crazy Mel.

No. It still have great reviews. Everyone knows it's not a true story, lol

Forrest Gump was the worst sort of Baby Boomer fan service, and it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen Tom Hanks in — and I used to watch Bosom Buddies.
