In any event, I am sure a lot of people may not appreciate what I am saying esp on DCUM where many people are liberal to a point of being unrealistic. Frankly I think the pushing gay agenda approach turns people off and that would be a shame. I just don't care who someone is sleeping with but I do care how families are portrayed and I do care about posing provocative questions at a young age. I think discussions about anything gay should be held off until at least fifth grade and certainly not in the younger years and I don't think my role is to make a gay family feel comfortable at the expensive of confusing my children.


This is ridiculous. 10 percent of the DC population is LGBT. Of course schools would incorporate that into their admission program. Perhaps they shouldn't do any outreach to any minority populations?

Maybe gay parents don't think their role is to pretend they don't exist for your benefit, at the expense of their children living their normal everyday lives?

No one is saying it is the same. They are simply acknowledging that those families exist, which is fact and truth. Ignoring those facts and the truth won't make them disappear.

Yes, people keep saying that. And I still don't know what it means. A man/woman family is different from a gay family because a man/woman family has a man and a woman, whereas a gay family has a man and a man, or a woman and a woman -- right? Are there lots of people out there disputing this? (Are there any?)

I haven't done a survey, but most Sidwell families I know have only one parent working full-time.

You do realize that many people need two incomes to make tuition work, right? At Sidwell, when child care is needed, I usually see au pairs or a cobbled together system of carpools and aftercare and/or college sitters.

Yes, you're right. A hetero family is not just the same as a gay family. A hetero family has a mother and a father. Or just a mother. Or just a father. Or a grandmother and a grandfather. Or a mother, a father, and a birth mother who lives somewhere else. Or a mother and a father, living in different households. Or a mother and a stepfather, or a father and a stepmother. Oy. So confusing for children at a young age. Which is why I think that private schools should only admit the children of married heterosexual couples who live together. If they get divorced, or even just if one parent gets posted temporarily overseas? Boot 'em out. Innocent kids shouldn't have to be confronted by this kind of stuff.


I don't want my kid to be exposed to anything other than a normal, DC private school family: a mother and a father with an older ex-wife, an even older ex-wife and a younger mistress. Anything else is disgusting and confusing for innocent children.
