Where is sela?

The board detailed their plan to address the leadership staffing issues. The board indicated that they will be hiring a third party search firm to hire for two positions. While not finalized, the board said that they are leaning toward hiring a Head of School (for academics) and a Head of Operations (administrative type duties). They plan to fill these positions around July.

The board reported on their successful fund raising efforts, including obtaining a sizable donation to create a playground. Also discussed were plans to improve communications both within the school and outside the school.

In addition to these items the board addressed other challenges that the school faced and discussed ways that the school can improve.

I also had a very favorable impression of Sela at the expo. I would really consider it for PK4. Unfortunately, my DS is PK3. That is the only reason I did not apply. The only negative thing I hear from current parents is the lack of playground, but it sounds now like that may happen.

i am with you. my DC was matched for K. it is hard because if the school had a strong few years behind it, i would not worry too much about the (temporary) lack of leadership. but with no history behind it, i am leaning towards not sending DC due to the black hole at the top.

I know it's hard with the lottery system the way it is now once your matched with a school your no longer elgible to participate in round2. With that being said if you have no other options and have to send your child to Sela I can personally say the K-team is awesome! We've enjoyed this year only because the teachers are great with the kids and my child has shown so much improvement with reading and math. The hebrew they have learned in such a short time is outstanding as well. I hope this easies your mind just a little...

Thanks PP. I too was matched with SELA for K this year and am encouraged. DH happened to speak to a board member (who has a child enrolled there) outside the school yesterday and said the board member did not downplay the challenges in leadership they are facing but did indicate they are working toward resolving them. The board member also said that their child loved the school.

the communications I've seen from Sela during the lottery process (to me as an applicant and to the admitted posted on a thread here) were kind and enthusiastic. Much better than the communication I've received from the school I was matched with. With good teachers and a school eager to please parents (because they are nervous about filling their classes), I think you'll be fine. The most important aspect of a school is the cultural demographics of kids, and this school has the potential to pull academically minded families (whether jewish or language immersion fans).

Principal Young was not let go, she quit day 1. She was there to greet the parents and students day1 and did not return after that day. Dr. Lody has always been ED not the principal.

I can say that the teachers are great. No complaints there. If you decide to send your child I'm sure they will enjoy it, I haven't seen a sad face from any of the kids yet

No, actually this is the principal they've had since then. He only quit a few weeks ago. He is very well regarded.

But the principal quit day 1 of school... so all this time and no search for replacement bothers me.

Well, he just announced he was leaving a few weeks ago. I wouldn't expect an announcement about a successor just yet.
