And why should you be ashamed? People should do work they love and not get caught up in the pay, or the status that supposedly comes with it.

what doctors earn $1 million plus?
Even the cash-only plastic surgeons I know don't earn half of that.

The best doctors in certain specialties earn that, I know because I have several doctors in my family.

What type of company? What was your experience prior to getting this position? Did you start that high or get significant raises?

Financial services. 15 years of top firm and government experience. My salary started high (firm associate) became very high (progressing through firm) dropped way, way back when I left for government, slowly rose again (through promotions in government service), and upon returning to private sector then exceeded (only just) the salary (incl bonus) I had when I left the firm.

I worked very, very hard in those 15 years (this includes during government service). At no time did I have a punch-the-clock 40 hr max-type job. I could have returned to a firm for more $$$ out of government but chose in-house which I view as more stable/secure and because no desire to be chasing after business as a partner.

Yes, law firm partners can earn quite a bit. It is not unheard of for some partners at the big law firms to earn $1M + / yr.

benefits of seeing my kids grow up and being with them when they need and not worry about deadlines at work = priceless

downside of my job my 8 yr old telling "if you get a job Mom, we would have more money" = it's time to polish the resume.

My husband stays at home with the kids. Our 2.5 year old believes that "daddies don't go to work".

How sad. He will probably marry a fat girl who will work two jobs to support him. If your child is female then she will be the fat girl.

What a nasty, bitchy comment. How cowardly to make such a mean spirited jibe. He or she likely have a very well balanced view of male and female roles and go far in life. How great to spend so much time with his father. Much better than being taken care of by daycare workers and never seeing his parents.

I love it when parents raise their own children. I am a nanny and will no longer do one family FT. Not fair to the child when I leave. I prefer doing several families PT. That way I am the support rather than the primary caregiver.
