As far as teetotalers go, yes, they bug me, but it wouldn't preclude me from being friends with them.
YOU are judgmental and close-minded.
And I hate to burst your bubble, but SaraH (not Sara) Palin is smarter than you.
Her accomplishments speak for themselves. Have you ever been governor of the largest state in America? Ran for president? Written a best-seller? And all the while, she doesn't exactly have it easy street with a special needs child and having a teenage daughter have a baby. She is amazing - even if you do not agree with her views, you should at least acknowledge that she is quite accomplished. AND beautiful.

I thought living here most of my life that folks were difficult to get to know--DC has always been a very hard place to make friends. If this thread is any indication, then it is no wonder. Many of you have never left HS. The mere idea that you could never be friends with such broadly defined parameters is just ridiculous. That goes for EVERYONE on this thread.
I'm the OP and I have given my parameters some thought in response to your comment. I really CANNOT be friends with people who don't hire babysitters. I simply cannot. I have tried. Not only do I need some adult time every so often, I can't stand the Mommy Martyrdom of these people who have never had a freakin babysitter. Geesh. I have a close friend (from college) who has never hired a babysitter, and I tell her all the time that I want to punch her in the face when she talks about it.
The drinking....I do have friends that don't drink. I was over-generalizing on that one. I make exceptions. But mostly, I like drinking buddies.
And, I responded to this one up a few pages but, I think people who don't complain about their husbands are either 1) not the sharing type, which is totally fine for them, but I am the sharing type, so we are not a good match; or (2) liars - and no one wants to be friends with liars.
So, I will take the back the drinking one. But not the others.![]()

Luckily, these three things often go hand-in-hand so it doesn't elimitate too many people.
What are yours?

Really? What kind of people would ask such a ridiculous question?
You have no idea. Lots of people in DC metropolitan area and beyond. People at my office, acquaintances we know from college or our single years, relatives we haven't seen in a while, you name it. . . people.are.CLUELESS.
So. You would NEVER be friends with someone because of they don't know the chronology of when you adopted your chinese baby? Well this confirms my perception of white women that adopt chinese babies. They have some persecution complex and need a living and breathing banner of the huge chip that they carry around on their shoulder every day. Adopting a regular old white baby wouldn't give them that instant tiger mom status they covet, either.
I assume the poster meant people who know when the child was adopted and still ask the question. I mean, if the child was adopted yesterday, then it's not an annoying question, right?
