This is cold hard truth.



Bottom line is club brand matters and many of those kids were overrecruited, which is the only thing you can really want from your club, get your kid to their ceiling.

Do you mean to a B-team for one of these clubs? If you don't make Capital Orange, you may have a shot at M&D Red or Hero's or Sky Walkers White, but if you don't make Capital Blue, you have no shot of making the A-team for those clubs. Not sure about MDU given the turnover.

That’s not my logic at all. Of course there is a lower tier of player on any given team, and no club or recruiting director is going to get every kid on to a top 25 program. The kid’s talent and hard work gets them there and the club provides a platform for them to show themselves. I am just countering the people acting like the cap blue program has some magic formula for recruiting success, when in reality it is just a talent rich area with very little local competition.

Former Capital Blue parent here and my daughter wouldn’t be where she is at one of these schools were it not for the club. On breaks during my daughter’s games during her recruiting season, I would often walk the tournament fields and regularly saw lower ranked teams with few to no coaches on the sidelines. At Capital games, coaches would swarm the recruiting tents to watch our team play. That doesn’t just happen randomly.


The coaches were there bc cap blue is the collection of the best DC talent generally. They weren’t there bc of a connection with the club or its recruiting director. That is my point. So yes, your kid got exposure being on a great team, but what did the admin or recruiting director do specifically?

Trying out for these clubs makes sense however it is more likley that any roster spot would be on one of the B Teams (M&D Red, Hero's White, Skywalkers White, etc.) which I am not knocking in any way.

How much better is an MD based B Team than M&D DC Black, YJ DMV, etc. or whatever DC area club the remaining talent ends up going to (Stars and Pride both want to have high school teams and could still be in the mix)?

Don’t forget that different people are looking for different things in their recruiting process. Some are looking for schools where they can get scholarships to minimize college costs, others don’t care about money and are just looking for the best academics possible or the best lacrosse program possible. Just because a person accepts an offer at a lower level lacrosse program doesn’t mean they couldn’t get an offer somewhere else. It may have been the best financial offer available, which is success for that family and ultimately the club program.
