Tough week for Spalding. 0-3 and a loss to a DC team on Senior Night. What’s going on there? They were looking strong.

Yep. RPCS this year has two OT losses and two other one goal loss this year. If they split those games they would be middle of the pack.

Yep, it’s crazy how many games are one goal and how it all changes the end result.

Severn lost by 1 in final game to NDP, a win would have been #5 seed but the loss took them to 9 and out of playoffs.

(They had lost in 3OT to Spalding earlier, the runner ups in conference)

These last 3 or 4 games are going to be pretty interesting. Every year it seems that three or four teams have the same records. Tie breakers determine who is in or out and what the seeds are. The last day of the season last year ended up with Severn out and BMS in. There was a four way tie for 5-8 two years ago which mattered a lot because they had byes.

Isn't St Mary's recently down one of their top players due to injury? That might change things a bit going forward. They're hard to pin down though. Think their match up on Friday vs McD will be telling for both teams, seeing as McDonogh's top offensive player is also out for the season. Offensive strategy has never been their strong suit, but their defense can keep them in games.

I agree, SPSG could win the rest of their games and get to 6 wins, but who knows with them this year. Think at most they may add one more loss which still keeps them in the playoffs. Maybe they make a run, but need to pick morale up first.

Think the 4 that miss the playoffs are Mercy, Bryn Mawr, Roland Park, and Severn.

Maryvale is obviously clear front runner. The championship is theirs to lose at this point.

Based on remaining opponents, SPSG will win at least two games, and most likely three out of the four. Their games against JC and Severn will determine their fate, obviously.

JC has a must win tomorrow against RPCS, and if it comes down to a 3-way tie between 5-win teams (JC, Severn, SPSG), JC is currently in last place. After head to head, it is your record against the teams above you in the standings. SPSG and Severn each have one of those wins, while JC currently has none. St. Mary’s still plays JC and Severn. How SM does without their #2 offensive player (?), when they already are near the bottom in goals scored per game, will be a big factor in who else makes the playoffs.

I guess if there were only 10 in A, you would have several teams at the bottom of B losing to 4 teams like 20-0.

There is nothing in the relegation rules about number of years in a conference. Unless Mercy appeals and wins, they will go back to the B conference. Reading the rules, it makes sense why Gerstell and Mt De Sales played so many A conference games. That can be considered in determining who is promoted if the team with the best record doesn’t win the championship. Mt De Sales had an argument for promotion by winning the championship last year.

MDSA losing a lot this year, I don’t think the school would want that.

They are losing a lot to A conference teams (only by two to Mercy). They are undefeated in the B conference though.

For lacrosse, I don't think the IAAM has any idea how to best divide the teams into conferences that are competitive top to bottom. They have changed the A from 15 down to 12 teams and still the difference between the top and bottom is pretty extreme. I know that the "prestige" of playing in the A conference seems to matter to some families and I have no doubt that it factors into picking a school ... bizarre as that is.

For every GCS who rose from C to A over a few years, there are schools like MDS and Mercy that are solidly the top of the B and bottom of the A. And then a school like GFS that was a playoff A team just two years ago, lost one of the best classes in 2024 and then went winless last year and were getting drummed every game.

I think there will always be four tiers in the A conference. The top tier (changes but not much), the consistent playoff tier, the tier that just miss the playoffs but are competitive, and the bottom tier that should really be in the B conference.
