Why would anyone go to Kennedy center now??

We could never afford the show. Tickets given to rich benefactors instead

Now the liberal rich , 90% of rich in DC, will not go either.

This is incredibly false. They had the Millennial stage which was free. The shows were fantastic. They had lots of cultural events to choose from.

This is so sad. I LOVED going to the NSO Christmas show. Sad that I will never step foot in there until Trump is dead.

Can you imagine what the show will be like once the country had been cured of Trump?

The website will crash with all the people re-joining. Getting tickets to Hamilton will be a bloodbath. Streets around the Kennedy Center will be mobbed with spectators trying to get snaps of Trump's name getting torn off the wall.

They will carry off pieces as souvenirs.

What most pissed me off was the presumption that the job of the Kennedy Center is to make money through ticket sales, and that if an artist doesn't make money, then that artist isn't worth presenting. These people really don't understand the concept of "public good" or a national performing arts center. Just a pathetic and nasty person.

I agree. I also think it’s interesting that they claim the previous shows were not money-makers, yet their current line-up has far less attendance. What does that say? Lol

The National Theatre's schedule has a great lineup with Stomp, The Book of Mormon, The Great Gatsby, Beauty and the Beast, The Notebook, The Wiz, Simon & Garfunkel Story, BeetleJuice, and more. It seems like some of these shows would have been at the Kennedy Center. The Book of Mormon have previously played at the Kennedy Center.

Warner Theatre was able to pick up the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre when they decided to not perform at the Kennedy Center after Trump took over.

Currently, along with their regular programs such as Shear Madness, on the Kennedy Center schedule is Crucible, Martha Graham Dance Company, and Chicago. The question is whether such shows will cancel due to poor ticket sales.

I have loved live performances since for decades. I have been to most of the venues in the city, Arena Stage, Kennedy Center, National, Warner, Ford and Studio Theatre and others. I will not step inside or give another dollar to the Kennedy Center under the current conditions. I know others who share the same sentiment. With what is on the current schedule, I doubt I am missing anything.

What a fking jackass. He flat out stated that the Kennedy Center needed to appease corporate sponsors so that it would make money from its programming. In between he insulted the Newshour host and PBS.

Well let's see how that's going to work for him. You need artistic legitimacy to have a functioning arts center. Otherwise there is nothing to corporately sponsor!

This guy needs some basic business education. Perhaps know who your customers are (it's theater in the DMV! Who buys those tickets??) and then don't troll them and alienate them?

What an idiot.

you would think if there were any groups that could effectively boycott something effectively, this is that situation.

"Wicked" composer Stephen Schwartz will no longer host an annual gala at the Kennedy Center, siting the fact that "appearing there has now become an ideological statement. As long as that remains the case, I will not appear there.”

I’m surprised they don’t have the likes of Kid Rock and Ted Nugent headlining acts there now.

Trump admin trying to lie and say that Stephen Schwartz the famous composer of Wicked, Pippin etc didn’t bow out but he was on their promotional materials and has said he’s not setting foot in the Trump Kennedy center

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/02/arts/stephen-schwartz-kennedy-center-opera-gala.html

Stephen Schwartz, the composer of “Wicked,” announced on Friday that he would no longer host a gala at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, becoming one of the most high-profile artists to criticize changes at the arts center under the Trump administration.

“It no longer represents the apolitical place for free artistic expression it was founded to be,” Mr. Schwartz said of the Kennedy Center in an email sent by his assistant to Newsday. “There’s no way I would set foot in it now.”

The Kennedy Center had promoted Mr. Schwartz’s involvement in the gala on its website since last spring, but his name was no longer included on Friday evening. A brochure advertising Washington National Opera events for the 2025-26 season said Mr. Schwartz would curate and host the gala
