Completely inappropriate for a parent to say that to their child. WTF is going on in that household?
As to the topic, someone on page 5 suggested that we're comparing women who choose to have careers with men who all must have careers. Leaving out the women who are sahm. That's an option a man just doesn't have. It was an interesting point.
I'm so glad you are so certain that I had a choice as a woman. It's just too bad that when I was 17-18 I didn't know where to go and apply to be a kept woman. Perhaps you could post the resources for the future generations so all these women don't get the wrong idea and get themselves these totally voluntary degrees and careers.
I'll bet you this describes a large portion of the posters here on dcum.
Ultimately marrying a spouse with whom you can have a good solid and financial partnership and understanding (whatever shape in terms of work and gender that means: reverse roles, same sex..) is actually great advice. Some men are actually great stay at home dads too.
I think the point is that's the bar men are expected to reach. Among women who are looking for husbands.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Go to college. Find a smart ambitious boyfriend. Marry him. Where are all these men who bring home enough money to have a SAHM and kids?

Misandry is acceptable because the left has been pushing the message that boys and men are horrible for the past 40 years. It’s endemic to American media and pushed in American academia.

I recall seeing him on some show in recent years (maybe with Bill Maher?) where one of his key talking points is that the most successful people are always out. You can’t make friends, find a partner, network, and be happy if you are always at home. That was such an obvious thing to say but again it underscores a big issue with Americans in 2025 (and it started before covid).
Anyway, I think he’s flagging a lot of real issues supported by facts and data.

Even if you don’t agree 100%, it’s weird to dismiss his work outright.
I’m in my 50s and I do policy work on social justice type issues that include things like poverty, and some of his work tracks with what I’ve researched, read, and observed firsthand working with experts in the US and abroad.

+1. I have no issue with highlighting the issues facing boys, but it's not just boys/men. The economic issues are facing women as well, but we don't have as much history with women being financially independent or breadwinners so it's glossed over.
As to the first question posed - whether girls have been favored or just put their heads down and have worked, uh, it's the latter. And any cursory review of the facts will bear that out over and over. If we had favored women then we'd have at least 50% representation in Congress, in board rooms, as CEOs, law partners, etc.
So I have a real problem with blaming boys' lack of progress on girls. I could write an entire essay on what I think the causes are, but girls aren't it.
I don't think anyone is blaming girls.
