I thought I was level 3, but now I think I’m not. I think I need a virtual visit for some strange reason, but they are booked all the way out. However, there’s a loophole. If you have started the process, you can volunteer. So I think I’m good for this year.

+1. Not to mention there wouldn’t be a way to do Level 1 or 2 kiosk checkin after hours when the office is closed. These are just additional reasons why it seems like all of this must only be meant for volunteerism during the school day. It’s not like the boosters or the PTA have access to any of this for checking people in.

+1. Some jobs the volunteers just show up outside of a building. Who is verifying that all of those volunteers have the proper vetting?

I did apply for level 3 for field trips...but I can't see what level I'm approved at....and also wasn't asked for fingerprints...

Check with the school. Did you get to the video? If you watched it, you are Level 2, it seems, though there is no way of seeing it in your account.

I did watch the video!

No one can see what level they’re approved for. Re: fingerprints - Unless you are an FCPS employee, or have had prints done with FCPS since 2006, you should have been asked for fingerprints. Maybe check with your school to be sure your application is really Level 3?

So, does that mean that I'm generally approved, but once they post my kids field trips I'll have to go through additional steps?

I'm so confused. I've got to the volunteer FCPS website and it seemed the first step to becoming a volunteer is to select a school. But what if I have kids at multiple schools? Do I have it to this process for all of them? Why are they asking me to select volunteer opportunities when I just want to register to be in the system in case I need to volunteer in the future?

Yes, they made changes a few weeks ago to make it more realistic. Now you only need the background check and fingerprinting if you want to be Level 3, which is field trip chaperones and direct supervision of students. Good changes.

That said, it’s still going to be thousands of parent volunteer applications. With just one HR employee in charge of processing them (ask anyone who’s been to Gatehouse, and they’ll tell you), this might take a while.

Yep.

I will take tickets at one school performance per year, allowed under the new system, but otherwise I am out.

It is too dang intrusive and complicated.

Usually, I volunteer a half dozen times or more a semester.

I am convinced that the new FCPS head of security has zero school experience.

Check out the updated requirements. They removed the “more than once”. It’s only the field trips that are still complicated, for the rest you just watch the video, and you can volunteer multiple times.
