My son really liked Elon, but didn't want to stay for the tour of UR after the information session. We toured anyway, but it didn't improve his impression.

My kid also preferred Elon and was turned off by Richmond. The campus was beautiful though and like Richmond. She thought Richmond felt stepford-like and too much pretense. Elon really focuses on student engagement, experiential learning, lots of campus programming, very involved professors, happy students, more down to earth student body.

OP here. My daughter said he thought she’d be happier at Elon, so it’s hard to argue with that! I think it was the students. Really seemed friendly and she said it felt like a “happy school” - whatever that means. My kids is she felt like the kids were happy and liked it there.

My son really liked the focus on undergraduate teaching at Elon. He has a friend who goes there and his friend said that there is a really strong emphasis at Elon on student engagement. He also liked the vibe. Nice down to earth kids. He just didn’t feel the same way about Richmond. UR came across as being kind of arrogant. It’s a fine school. But so is Elon and several of those others he’s considering, Furman, Kenyon, Denison, Trinity TX. Richmond is the one school that gives off a bit of an arrogant, entitled vibe.
