Becoming more popular doesn’t mean UTK is close to UGA. It’s just caught up to SC and Auburn.
Did I say it was close to UGA? Clearly you missed my point…which was that this doesn’t matter.

At least at Alabama, the smart kids are separated. They live separately and usually start in 300-level classes after testing out with high APs. The program kids never really see the rest of the students unless they want to.

There are a lot of politically liberal college towns (and colleges) in the south such as Chapel Hill, NC; Gainesville, FL (UF); Athens, GA (UGA); Boone, NC (Appalachian State); Fayetteville, AR (university of Arkansas); UNC-Asheville, and of course a lot of the more selective southern schools like Emory, Rice, Vanderbilt, Duke, Tulane are all in liberal towns/cities too. But the political structure of the entire state is what makes for the more conservative legislature that many object to.

Years prior I saw a lot more students opting to attend schools in the south.
This is what I'm seeing too. Kids still applying to SEC schools but ultimately picking other schools like those in the Midwest.
If conservative state politics are an issue, why would they choose Midwestern schools over Southern schools? Wouldn't it make more sense to go to school in the NE or Pacific Northwest?

Georgia kids who lack the grades for UGA often go to Alabama, Kentucky, or Tennessee.
Tennessee and UGA are getting pretty close. So I would just leave Alabama and Kentucky.
Tennessee isn’t in UGA’s tier.
It actually is. Sorry. UGA is average.
UGA is a top public university. Is Tennessee even in the top 100?
Sorry, but it's hard for me to take UGA that school when they rank #111 in such a popular STEM major like engineering (lower than Tennessee I might add) . It's a decent school but don't make it out to be more than it is. A big SEC school with a football team.
Did your kid not get in or something? Top flagships like UGA and UVA don’t focus on engineering because GA and VA have GT and VT for STEM.
Don’t put that evil on UVA. They rank 39th in engineering and moving up. UGA is 111!
Did your kid get rejected by UGA?
Lol. Who gets rejected by UGA?
Lol. UGA has a 37% acceptance rate.
Almost 40% - Is that much different than Tennessee? Tennessee is getting much more difficult to get into. Like I've said, I don't think the two schools are that far apart. Both good schools.
Tennessee accepts 65% of in-state students and isn’t ranked in the top 100. UGA is selective in state and out of state and much better ranked. Please stop embarrassing yourself.
Why are you so defensive of UGA? Their overall acceptance rates recently are not that far off. I said it’s a good school just don’t think it’s as superior to a fellow SEC school like Tennessee as you are making it out to be. Both large SEC schools with good academics that place a large emphasis on football and sports. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s all good
You’re desperately trying to make people think UGA and UTK are similar academically and they’re not, sorry. The in-state acceptance rate tells the true story about UTK, they are average in-state and generated more apps out of state recently.
Overall acceptance rate doesn’t matter when UGA outranks UTK and it’s not close. UGA has much higher stats. UGA requires the SAT or ACT. You can love UTK without it being in the same academic tier as UGA.
Why are desparately trying to show UGA is better than UTK? What's your interest?
I’m not desperate, the facts are clear to everyone but you. Please stop, you’re only making UTK look bad.
Is your kid going to UGA..is that why you are acting like this? It's ok. It's a good school. I have absolutely no tie to either school or any dog in this race. But, the UTK bashing by some UGA posters on this board is just silly. It's like they feel the need to knock down UTK to loft up UGA. The question I have is why? UTK is a good SEC school just like UGA. Isn't that OK.
Let’s make this very simple for you. UGA and UTK are not the same. You tried to say they are and you’ve been corrected. For the third time, please stop.
UTK is better. I love Knoxville.
Every objective measure suggests otherwise but you’re entitled to your opinion.
No it doesn't. What if I'm trying to decide between UGA and UTK and I want to major in engineering. UTK is ranked #52 in Engineering and UGA is ranked #111 by UNWR. Does the objective measure say I should go to UGA over UTK?
Holy shit give it up. Everyone knows UGA is much better overall and kids change majors.
lol now it's "overall" and kids change majors and didn't answer question. Can't make it up. You're right. I give up.
Cling to some engineering ranking if you want. If you have to try that hard to find something UTK might be better at you’ve proven my point. Once again you’re making yourself and UTK look dumb. Obviously you won’t stop so keep digging your hole if you want, I’m watching and laughing either way everyone else.
NP here. And you're making yourself look angry and triggered. Like, geez, y'all both need to stop.
Not angry at all. Just correcting misinformation.

Anonymous wrote:UTK is on the level of Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, UofSC, etc. UGA is more on the order of Florida.

OOS doesn't necessarily mean NE.
It’s common knowledge that most OOS kids come from the NE.
Is it? I live in Colorado we have a million students at auburn alabama etc. my son got in to Clemson auburn Tennessee …..but is choosing boulder![]()
