Dear Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Families,
I am writing to share information regarding a serious incident involving B-CC. Earlier today, we received a report that a student allegedly had a weapon on campus and had fled the building after being seen with the alleged weapon. School staff, MCPS Safety and Security staff, and MCPD officers immediately began collaborating to identify the student, investigate the incident, and determine appropriate next steps. These next steps included determining appropriate safety measures at B-CC for the remainder of the day and coordinating with our police partners the timing of community notification so as to not impact their immediate and ongoing investigation or responsive actions. B-CC will maintain an increased security presence for the remainder of today out of an abundance of caution.
We are committed to providing a safe school environment for all our students and staff and threats against our school will not be tolerated. The possession of weapons on school grounds is illegal, dangerous, and disruptive to school operations. I encourage all parents to talk with their children about this issue and share that this kind of behavior could be criminal and subject to prosecution by law enforcement.
As a reminder, if you see or hear something, please say something. Please do not hesitate to share anything you believe may be a concern to our school community. Information related to the ANONYMOUS MD Safe Schools Tip Line can be found on the back of every student ID card.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school at 240-740-0400.
Sincerely,
Staten Money

What was point of his second letter sent Tuesday, a day after, at a late 1030pm? BCC parents do you know?
Yep. The point of his second letter is that a couple of parents on the listserv made demands for communication from Dr. Mooney "today." So he was trying to be responsive, even though this is an investigation that the school isn't in charge of conducting and he can't just share information on demand on any given day.
So students will be excused from school until the investigation concludes? We're being asked to send kids to school and we don't have information that this alleged student is coming to school is on campus? You do know MCPS has a duty to protect our kids while in their care?
You think BCC should just shut down?![]()
No matter what BCC does about half the parents here will find something to complain about.
It's true that there's no pleasing everyone, but MCPS is objectively doing a terrible job when it comes to safety and security and communications.

MCPS has argued repeatedly in court that it has no such duty, and their behavior in this case and in others demonstrates that they believe that at their core even as judges and juries keep rejecting their argument.
