This team played in my son's age group (U12). Our team was crushed by them in the final game but it was no surprise to anyone as the PR kids were incredible and clearly a high level team that played together year round. It was honestly really sad. Whole families traveled all the way here from PR, they had rented big vans and they camped out at the fields all day (because where else would they go?). I am sure they were baffled by how bad the other teams were at this "elite" tournament. (Our all star teams practice together 2 or 3 times, kids show up and are still learning each other's names at the games!) These poor people must have spent a fortune on flights and hotels. Our coach said he complained to Valor about travel teams playing in a rec tournament but no one answered his questions.
All our SFL age teams play in FPYC, haven't heard if the younger teams will be stuck with Valor again. Not really sure why we were there in the first place.
PS- Can confirm (1) no free churros and (2) medals were absolutely FUGLY. We were laughing about how awful they were. "50 cent trinket from South of the Border" is spot on. Not sure if it's one guy in charge with really bad taste that no one wants to gainsay or a bunch of old guys with bad taste, but man. I would honestly be embarrassed to have that in my house. What were they thinking with this whole theme?
Your coach complained about travel teams being in a rec tournament!?!? Let me guess… you’re a CYA team? I’m sick of hearing about loser coaches that can’t handle a loss with sportsmanship in these all star tournaments. Get this through your head CYA … travel teams do not waste time in our rec all stars. Stop filing meaningless complaints because you’re sore that a better team beat you.
Yet they sort of do. When my daughter was with Herndon. The U-8 all star tournament had loudoun pre-travel teams these girls played together all year and showed up to play REC kids. It was not fun at all.

Anonymous wrote:CYA doesn't fund Valor. Valor exists because the dudes in charge wanted to pay themselves a lot more and charge a lot more than "community travel soccer rates" and keep from sharing the profits with the larger CYA rec org, so they created a financially separate non profit. They happily use CYA's assets like field space and mailing lists for free though.
Maybe the CYA All Star coaches refused to coach if they returned to the same bad tournament.

If *Valor* had listened to feedback they wouldn't be trying again at a fail tournament.

Parents in the u11 and ups have been to a lot of all star tournaments, usually it is generally the same kids every season. Our all star coach said HYS had never had so many parents complaining as they had during the Valor thing last year.
You are 100% right, it is the same kids year after year in the all stars. I don’t understand why some parents think so highly of these tournaments. The coaches are even worse. Yelling and screaming from the sidelines as if it’s the World Cup. All Star is nothing more than afterthought once the travel season is over and travel players are done using the fields. And from the sounds of it Loudoun soccer is the only program fielding a decent soccer team in the crappy Valor Tournament. I would NOT accept an invite to waste my weekend and money for my DC.
My HYS kids have always had a good experience with Herndon tournament and the FPYC tournament. Last spring Valor tournament was ratchedy but at least they listened to the coaches and parents feedback and quit it.
Sorry your kids didn't enjoy the experience. All Stars is usually a lot of fun for kids who want more competitive soccer without paying for travel (and for our org, U11 and up do not have a regular season tournament, so this is the only tournament the older players get to experience.)
