It was terrible. Trying so hard to be profound. Overacted. Distracting camera work. None of the characters felt like 3 dimensional characters. You need to screw up really bad to make Mahershala Ali look bad. Just so awful.

Don’t hate me for real-upping this thread, but I just finished watching this over 3 days (tv during the day is a rarely-discussed Covid plus) and I enjoyed it! Maybe not sitting through it all at once? Maybe because I had low expectations?
- there’s no way the son made it. The other three did. I liked the Friends soundtrack ending - that girl was accepting God’s help to make her dreams come true, just like the parable she talked about.
Good show.

It's painful watching movies with people who need everything explained for them.

It was all very vague in the novel as well. That’s kind of the point.

It should be explained during the movie. There were too many vague unknowns with this one. I sat through it but wasn’t impressed.

I don't want to be mean, but lots of people figured these things out. Movies don't always spoonfeed everything to you.

And for this movie especially, it was intentionally vague, kind of like how it would be if something like this actually happened.

It was a terrible movie, a real snoozefest.

On a positive note, my faith in Rotten Tomdatoes remains intact, the Audience Score is 34% which is really low. I generally ignore the Tomatometer though because critics tend to be worthless. The Tomatometer is a 76% in this instance which is an absolute joke.
