Having said that, can anyone explain why the actions of the former are not absolutely drowning out anything that can said about the actions of the latter? Like, why are we even taking about ANYONE other that Stu?

Because antisemitism is more significant threat at this point.

Because religion, right?

Their anti-lgbtq is part of their religious beliefs…or culture, right?

And that somehow gives them a shield…or sword when it comes to defending their religious freedom or right to be (at best) intolerant.

Let me just go on record as saying I’m fine with people of any religion or culture as long as they don’t use their religion or culture to perpetrate inequality.

We wouldn’t be ok with a religion or culture that perpetuates slavery or racism, so let’s not give a religion or culture a free pass to be anti-lgbtq, etc.

That's pretty much all religions.

Not quite.

Her op-Ed hits close to home. This became an issue in Montgomery County Public Schools and it was largely driven by Muslims. It went beyond books to the family life curriculum in health (sex ed/safe sex).

The catholic pope has softened on lgbtq issues, and he’s the official spokesperson. The reality is most Americans aren’t religious—and if they affiliate with a religion they aren’t rabidly committed to outdated teachings.

For me, it comes down to what the average practitioner says. And Zainab is an average practitioner who has a platform through her day job and other professional affiliations—which she should presumably use to build bridges and tolerance. Yet she hasn’t.

Back to the point: this all played out in MoCo, and the group with the anti-lgbtq agenda wasn’t catholic or Jewish.

You're labeling an entire group based off of one person? That's just as bigoted as being anti-lgbtq.

No, not quite.

I’m not a fan of labeling any group because no group marches in lockstep at the macro level.

But if you google Zainab and what she personally said with regards to what was going on in MoCo/mcps, she said—on behalf of her org CAIR—that they wanted to opt out of lgbtq books/content to protect their religious freedom and “deeply held” religious beliefs.

So, Zainab was seemingly using her org’s platform to speak on behalf of Muslims and their deeply held religious beliefs.

Shall we hold her accountable—a public figure who serves as a spokesperson?

Sure, but there are Muslims who accept lgbtq just like there are Christians/Catholics and Jews who do. But the 10 Commandments themselves say homosexuality is a sin.

Sigh.

Can you get beyond the whataboutism and focus on Zainab—the public figure in leadership positions making her a spokesperson for the Muslim community—and what she has publicly championed on the community’s behalf?

She’s not some rando tweeting missives.

This thread is about hate crimes, and Zainab hasn't committed one, so not sure why you'd focus on her while calling the fact that nearly all religions consider homosexuality a sin "whataboutism".

NP. It's fair game to call Evangelicals "Christian nationalists" and even potential domestic terrorists for espousing exactly the same beliefs. If it is framed as a threat when it comes from Christians, I'm not sure why it should be different when it comes from Muslims or anyone else for that matter.

There was that city in Michigan that had an all-Muslim city council that forbade the flying of the pride flag on public property. They even fired employees who tried to violate the ban on acknowledging Pride Month.

He is NOT unhinged. He could not be more typical of the Zionists who've been at the helm of US FP for decades and decades, and I include Biden and Blinken and Dubya's admin and Obama's. The same old Zionist policies/attitudes that have allowed Israel's interests to take precedence over US interests and every ME civilian who is NOT Israeli and treated as unworthy of life. Ppl like him are why we're allowed to boycott our own country in 36 states, but not Israel.

Every admin is overrun w/ ppl like him (esp., in "diplomacy") and that is the *only* reason we have the enemies that we do in the ME. "They hate us fer ar' freedom" is BS. You're looking at precisely why we overthrow govts and why we treat Palestinians as if they are the aggressors.

SOCIAL MEDIA is the only reason we get to finally see swine like this exposed. You think David Muir will cover it? Lester Holt? No, because that's what MSM has always done when it comes to Israel's proponents and its behavior. Every time it's covered, it's covered as if it were "retaliating." Middle East panels w/ NO Palestinians, but chock-full o' Zionist mouthpieces. Simply ignore that Isr killed over a 1000 a few years ago and just sanitize/whitewash Isr image. Simply ignore that rabid settlers beat farmers to death and poison their lands. Simply ignore the hell on earth for Palestinians and just shriek "Hamas!" for everything. Simply ignore that an AMERICAN CITIZEN journalist named Shireen Abu Akleh was murdered by Israel and they lied about it. I guess Jamal Khashgogi is lucky the Saudis killed him and not Israel, because at least his name is now well-known and journalists like Rachel Maddow say his name and the govt gets outraged by his murder, unlike anyone killed by Israel who gets a spit in the face and the US goes to ask the sniper if he's OK and if he'd like US taxpayers to pay for some ointment on his trigger finger to go along w/ the free McD's.

The only reason there's ANY support for Israel in this country is because for so long, Americans have been conditioned like Pavlov's dog to see Israel as the consummate victim, because MSM and the govt were the only sources and repugnant men like this were who journalists went to get their "quotes" from as if they are respected statesmen and diplomats worthy to be heard.

This is who they have always been. Always.

BTW, I want to know why the ADL gets to repeat this "388%" increase of "antisemitism" without citing all of the examples since Greenblatt has already stated he considers criticism of Israel as antisemitic? I think that if journalists/media outlets actually did their job rather than just take the ADL's word as gospel and repeat this supposed spike, you'll find very few are swastikas on a temple and more examples are of someone calling out Israel's barbarism

I wish I could applaud you IRL. You get it 300%. Coming from another country that hasn’t taken sides on the Israel/Palestine wars, I was shocked by how curated and Zionist propaganda-filled U.S. “news” on the issue is.
