I dislike how women are written in this show with the exception of the episode Ayo Edibiri wrote about her own character (unsurprisingly). I find most of the women on the show two dimensional. So the woman at the dive bar felt familiar and also empty to me.

Apparently John Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are starring in a Broadway play together and wrote this episode together as well. It did have the feeling of a play almost, but one of my biggest issues with the Bear is how it just wallows in the sad and frustrating backstories of its characters while neglecting any forward momentum of the characters and plot in the present. So a flashback episode that expands on a relationship that I feel is already pretty well established, with a bunch of stress and conflict that has no bearing on the current timeline of the show, is a big "who cares" for me. Does this have any bearing on whether Carmy will leave Chicago and the restaurant? Will it have any impact or bearing on Richie's and Carmy's current relationship? Does it have ANYTHING to do with Sugar or Marcus or Sid or most of the characters I actually like on the show? No. So what is the point?

Totally agree. One of my favorite episodes of The Bear was the one where Tina and Ebraheim go to culinary school to learn how to perfect their basic skills. It made me sad that Ebraheim felt it was all beyond him and decided to drop out, but I loved that Tina clearly reveled in learning new things, improving, and moving forward.

Jon Bernthal’s Mikey is one of the saddest characters I’ve ever come across in TV and his truly ugly outbursts in this episode and the series itself are some of the low points for me. Also, profanity doesn’t bother me but when it’s used as a dialogue crutch it really annoys me. F-this and F-that adds nothing, either in this episode or the series as a whole.

I finished this episode feeling gross, depressed and in need of a shower after watching Michael and Sherri lounging all over the dive bar bathroom toilet and stall floor. Vomit.

They looked awful and like nothing I would ever kill to taste.

Vent over!

Ummm i think that's the point. At least part of it.

I agree with a lot of your points, but you need to stop with the “this wouldn’t really have happened!” Just enjoy the show (or not).
