Subject: Did your FCPS go on a really pitiful field trip this year to the Smithsonian art museum?
What happened to the big trips that FCPS used to do, Philly, Williamsburg, etc.
Mine is a 6th grader scheduled to do the trip to National Gallery. Sounds like it’s not going to be a great experience.

Ok, so your school turned down the Kennedy field trip. That’s on the 4th grade team (teachers), FCPS invites them.
Every 4th grader goes to the Kennedy Center and every 6th grader goes to an art museum.
Maybe at your school. Not at ours. The kids last year went to George Mason's house instead of Jamestown and then they went to a one-room schoolhouse in Alexandria. They were pretty upset when the heard that kids in neighboring elementary schools with to Jamestown or Richmond.

It is true. Every school is offered the fourth grade trip to the Kennedy Center. I can’t speak for the art museum trip.
Every 6th grader is too. Each school gets an assigned museum and date. It is up to the teachers to confirm and decide if they are going.

But the schools are invited to these trips and they can choose to go (often at just $5).

Of course I don’t ban books. Also, I’m not their mom, so stop trying to mom-shame me. I am a professional who has more education than you (unless you have 2 PhDs).
DP and fellow PhD holder who is not impressed. Having advanced degrees doesn’t automatically make you a good teacher. Sometimes you’re the worst because you assume your education is sufficient to do the job well. Sounds like you need to learn some management techniques so your students can get the experiences they deserve. Saying you won’t bother because one or two students make it difficult is a total cop out.

I teach HS. Only a few of my colleagues try to take students on field trips. Do you know what teenagers are like?
I'm also a high school teacher and I take kids on multiple field trips per year. What are you worried about?

Starting small? This is the only field trip they will take all year.
Do other schools' 6th graders get another field trip?
Good on the dad for making it up to the kids.
Hope others do the same and even plan trips with other families.
You really can’t rely on FCPS for some things.

I’m not the PP, but often times there is a student or two that could make a field trip very difficult.
