That's not something Montgomery County alone can fix. That needs a federal solution to make everyone pay more so no jurisdiction can take advantage and get an unfair advantage. Higher state/county tax just makes one county less desirable to live in compared to other states/counties with lower taxes. You don't want to create an environment where jurisdictions can cheat, e.g. Ireland on the world scale with a super low corporate tax rate.

By the way, perfect timing, if you want to pay more you can overpay your Form 502 tax bill to Maryland or Montgomery County, I'm sure they won't complain if you overpay your taxes. That's your prerogative, don't drag other people down with you.

Increasing taxes would be counterproductive for MoCo, because MoCo will not see the benefit of those increased taxes. Those who pay the taxes (and cost the MoCo the least) are moving elsewhere, whether Frederick, NoVa, or elsewhere. Any budget projections based on increased taxes are a joke.

and any chance of attracting business is also less likely since nobody wants to live in a place with all these costs and 0 benefits

Is there a way to just recall Elrich?

Nope because he WON the election. Deal with it. Many of us MoCo residents are perfectly happy with Elrich.

I don’t hate him but I wish he would pass the torch. He has been in MoCo politics for as long as I’ve been old enough to vote. Somehow we just can’t seem to get rid of him. Even though he’s had the minority opinion on a lot of things, he’s always somehow there. Isn’t he getting up there in age too? Maybe he’ll retire?

Actually there have been increased hiring of police and increased patrols. The only people saying "nothing" has been done are partisan trolls.

I put mine on notice that if they rubber stamp this especially without making any effort to get the wasteful MCPS spending under control they can count on me not voting for them and donating heavily to their opponents.

Don't forget to call/email the at-large councilmembers too, because Elrich is promoting the false narrative that the only way to fund MCPS is through a property tax increase and doing it backdoor via majority vote rather than unanimous vote. That provision is not intended to be used when other things in the overall budget are increasing too.

No. You had two - no, FOUR, chances to vote him out.

The 2018 primary, David Blair lost by 77 votes.
The 2018 general, Nancy Floreen as an independent, got draxxed.
The 2022 primary, David Blair lost by 32 votes.
The 2022 general, a moderate Republican Sully got draxxed.

You can blame whoever or whatever you want. Not having rank choice voting. Too many influential politicians and activists from downcounty. The unions. The environmental lobby. The MCEA.
You knew the rules of the game and you knew who you were up against and you still lost.

The answer is run better candidates, and organize around them. David Blair was almost, not quite, but he still lost, twice, and he still lost. A good candidate would have crushed Elrich. David Blair and his supporters just didn't come to the reality of the Montgomery County electorate, which is decidedly left of center. A wealthy businessman with no government experience just turned a lot of people off, and a fair amount decided to vote for Hans Riemer (who is an idiot) or vote for Elrich himself out of spite.

You need to run a candidate who will energize Montgomery County's voting base while also bringing more competency and fiscal responsibility in governing. This means someone who has government experience and can throw a bone to the far left while being grounded in reality on the budget. I don't know who this person is. But you cannot become the Montgomery County Executive without winning a lot of the votes in Silver Spring.
