What is FL 3 or 4?

FL = Foreign Language (Spanish, French ...)

Blair has Advanced Science where they do physics /science lab stuff, allegedly including a trebuchet.
I don't know that "magnet woodshop" is.

I doubt it. My son doesn't do any sports and got in. It is really hard to find a rhyme and reason for these things.

+1 mine got into Blair SMACS with no extra curricular activities at all, and only the bare minimum SSL hours. I doubt those things matter much.

Do you think your kid got in based on MAP scores alone, out of interest? Or was there anything in their essay that definitely made them stand out? My kid also got into Blair without any extra curricular except swimming.

I’m the pp you quoted.

Congratulations to your DC! Like another pp said, I’m not sure that there’s a rhyme or reason. But one thing is that my kid is taking Algebra 2 this year, and I assume they took a close look at any kid in that category. Their essay also made it clear that they’d be a good fit for the program in terms of intellectual interests. But I was nervous that they might not seem well rounded enough.

Congrats again to your DC; I hope they have an amazing HS experience.

My kid is taking Algebra 2 this year too. And, computer science classes. Very well rounded and still waitlisted. Mine has several extra curricular multiple times a week.

I have an Alg 2 kid waitlisted at PHS GE and rejected from SMCS. Good extracurriculars, and I think a good essay that showed an interest in science. I have no idea how these things work.

I still haven't heard from Wheaton as an email for my private school child. The other child is in MCPS so ParentVue gave me the information. Any private school parents still waiting to hear from Wheaton?

I feel really bad for my child, they are gutted. Not even waitlisted at their school of choice. Does anyone have any advice on the appeals process?

In at Blair SMACS and both of the Wheaton engineering programs. He’s set on Blair, so that’ll already open up two spots at Wheaton.

This happened with TPMS admissions too. Several of DC's classmates who were accelerated in math got in the wait pool at TPMS but they were at the top of the waitpool and did get spots in the spring. Your child will probably have a good chance if they didn't overadmit this year.
