This. Why is no one in the media pressing them on this question?

Because the dems are open to negotiate.

Negotiate raising the debt ceiling? I sincerely hope not. That should not be up for negotiation.

Budget cuts, fine; but that’s a separate conversation. And as many others have said, cut DOD and increase funding for IRS.

They forgot they are no longer the Paul Ryan fiscally conservative GOP so are trying to figure out what entitlement or other budget cuts wouldn't anger their base.

You realize this is a myth, right?

There is no such thing as a fiscally conservative GOP. They just want lower taxes for the 1% - even Papa Bush called it Voodoo Economics.

I think they genuinely also wanted to slash SS, Medicare and Medicaid. They just were not quite as successful in doing it.

Their plan is to go after trans athletes! All 32 of them.

You jest, but it does raise a good question. Why are they doing this? The base doesn't give two sh*ts about the debt or deficits. They care about immigration, transgender athletes, CRT, vaccines, the war on christmas and all the other culture war idiocy. And the base is definitely going to be pretty upset if SS, Medicare and Medicaid actually get cut because lots of them depend on those programs. This is winning them zero votes and will potentially cost them a lot.

Yes, exactly. It is mind blowing to me that their priorities aren’t actually beneficial to them like Social Security. They care about literally 32 athletes according to NCAA, which has zero impact on most of their lives but dismantling Social Security will! Like Bigly, as they say. The average person with a 401k, which is NOT the average person btw, retires with an average of $140k (rounding up it’s like 137k something). $140k is nothing when you retire!

Because their economic policies are unpopular and they know it. That's the whole point of having wedge issues. Sure, they may want to deny everyone under 40 a retirement, but they'll protect women's sports so it's really a tough call who to vote for

Can we have safe protected spaces for biological sex females AND social security? Well, we ladies said we wanted “choice”. I guess this is the one we get. Great…

Fake news. Carry on.

Hey the GOP is busy introducing bills about trans athletes. Gotta work on those pointless culture war issues to upset their base and keep them focused on the irrelevant. Like how many trans athletes are there?! Meanwhile, the economy will tank from a default.

Dems should call their bluff by saying "HERE's our plan: Trim some of the DoD bloat while getting back to mission and positionng ourselves better for defending ourselves and allies, and oh, we're going to generate revenue by raising corporate taxes, closing loopholes for the rich, eliminating or rducing some big corporate subsidies, adding another progressive bracket for the wealthy, penalizing offshoring of finances, and removing the contribution cap from social security.

They're going to do that in the president's budget.
